What a nice photo!

This is how I look like. Now, feel free to insult me based on the arbitrary appearance I got by mere chance

You look like a cool guy. And now we know who we talk to. :)

Oor k a rl h e nn i ng has many strings to his bow - and clearly one of them is in the wearing of a hat.  8)

Just be careful, because that's how you get a reputation...

You look really pretty there. So jealous you met Salonen, he's one of my all time favorite conductors (and composers). I'm not gay but I would admit a little man-crush
He's an awesome dude, would be a wonderful person to converse with  8)

Aww thanks! And yeah...ditto, to all of that ;) A dream come true.

The main reason we went that week was for the premiere of the Cello Concerto, I wrote about that and meeting him here.

It really struck me how sweet and down-to-earth he was - actually blushed when I raved about his compositions, and seemed tickled we flew to Chicago just for that ;D

Seriously, attending a world premiere of a composer you love is something that should be on every new music lover's bucket list, such a special experience!

Another good one -

Thanks for sharing Senta. And I agree with the above, I flew to NYC for Philip Glass' Symphony No. 11 world premiere at Carnegie Hall. Was a priceless few days.

He is so small! I met him ages ago after the premiere of his violin concerto and was kind of shocked lmao.

With Ensemble Aubade at their concert in Weston, VT this afternoon. I was alert, not astonished ....

Yes! I'm only like 5'5" in heels for reference (and also Leila is about the same height.) It just never occurred to me, as onstage they both seem larger than life.

I didn't realize he had a new premiere, gotta look out for that Cello Concerto, I'm interested to hear it. What is it like compared to his classic Piano and Violin Concertos?

Just reading your link now, it looks like a bloody great two concerts! I think the March 9 one would kill me (in a good way). New Esa-Pekka alongside my favorite early-period Stravinsky work (Petrushka), lucky you  :o

And..the concert started with Adams' Slonimsky's Earbox - so that night was pretty much aural nirvana ;)

The Cello Concerto is a big departure from anything else, but then again each of the concertos are really unique to each other. There might be a smidge of kin to the Violin Concerto, though much of the last mvmt is related to Karawane. Super atmospheric and really a trip live. I'm sure it will get a proper recording soon enough!
