looking for ANY ideas of how to store 900 CD's and 300 LP's in one wall unit. So far the closest I have come is to convert 3 rows of an Ikea Expedit 5X5 into 15 half shelves and leave the other 3 for Lp's. This is going to be allot of work. I simply want to walk into my music room and browse an entire wall for what I want to listen to. I'm sick of seperates for everything.

Thanks!

Jeff

Jeff,

That's to the one I just bought, it holds like 2300 or so. However they have a whole series of smaller ones too. They'll have what you want plus free shipping to boot.  :)

Spinkeeper says they need some "easy assembly".  How easy in actuality is the "easy assembly"?   (Me being the sort of person who has trouble assembling even the simplest sort of prefab funiture.)

Always a very difficult thing to grade. I am highly experienced at that sort of thing, and I found it child's play.  I just can't predict, unfortunately. It is well constructed though, so things fit as they're supposed to. That goes a long way right there!  :)

Thanks guys but nothing to hold LP's and CD's together. As they are different sizes. I don't want seperates either if I can help it. But a great choice for CD's only for sure!

Hi Jeff - I'm an amateur woodworker & have built many CD/DVD/BD storage units (no longer have LPs) over the years.  My most recent project was for a friend (who helped in my shop) - immediately below are 2 pics of his wall unit which I designed to hold all heights of optical media (made from mahogany, oak dowels, & oak plywood back) - one pic of the unit in my shop & another hanging on his wall - this case can hold up to 600 CD/DVD/BDs - I would suggest buying a wall unit for CDs alone to accommodate your present (and added space for your future CD additions).

Now, I do not think there is a good solution for a single 'wall' unit that will hold both CDs & LPs - my personal choice would be for a bookcase type floor unit (w/ enough depth to hold the LPs) and a matching wall unit above for the CDs; several years back, I made such a combo for our computer unit; 2 pics below show the wall unit w/ CDs & the lower bookcase which now holds books, DVD boxes, & notebooks - the depth of the case is 10", so if I had needed to store LPs, I would simply made it 2" deeper.

Thus, I would suggest looking online for a 'matching' (or even contrasting) pair w/ those thoughts in mind.  Good luck!  Dave :)

Great work and thanks for the suggestion. I have a plan to take the IKEA Expedit 5 X 5 and half three rows with shelves for CD's and the other two rows for CD's. This will hold 500 LP's and 900 CD's. I have to back the whole case with thin board so the CD shelves don't fall out. Then put a small stip of wood at LP and CD depth to have it all faced. this is my plan but buying something would be SO much easier. I'll take some pics when I'm done and post.
