For Christmas I've always thought it ought to have been Mandelrings.

Despite my intentions to engage in this initiative, I was unable to find the Danel box in a timely manner (or any of the other recommended sets, for that matter). I'm afraid I'll only be able to dig into the string quartets after I get back to the US, in about three weeks--and I'll plan things so that I have that set waiting for me in my mailbox when I arrive.

Think of cookies! Mandel = Almond

Only if they have raisins!

Thread duty:
A sudden brainstorm decided me to take advantage of having today off from work by playing the Borodin II (aka the Holy Cow set) through in its entirety.  Accordingly, CD 1 (SQs 1, 2, and 4) has just gone into the CD player.

Having finished CD 1 of the Borodins, and moved on to CD 2 (SQ 3 with the Piano Quintet, in which some guy named Richter appears, and some pieces for string octet I don't think I've ever heard before)--

This set is turning out to be awesome,  both for the performances, which seem to be hitting all the things I like in this music, and the sound quality.  Never though I'd be uttering the words "superb sound quality" and "Melodiya" in conjunction,  but there it is--the sonics are as good as the music making itself.

Assuming the other four CDs match these first two,  the Borodin II will move into my top spot.

Well, les Mandelrings sont arrivés maintenant.

Bilbo's favorite is the Sixth in G Major.

There's a coworker who calls me "Wilbo".  ;D
