Dutch / french Wayenberg - who had Russian roots - was not only a great pianist, but also a composer. His Symphony "Capella" and a concerto for three pianos and orchestra have been performed at least once....
His recorded legacy includes excellent perfomances of Gershwin's rhapsody in blue and Rachmaninov 2

I remember going to Amsterdam for his performance of Jolivets concerto with the Koncertgebouw orchestra and Haitink!

I learned the 'big piano hits' through Wayenberg. My dad had a vinyl album with romantic classics.
When I listened to other performers who played those works, it struck me how lyrical, 'easy' and 'no nonsense' Wayenberg's interpretation was. I like(d) that a lot.

May he rest in peace.
