Gonna take a while to get used to the new name but glad you're still here  :)

Thanks Alien :)

Now playing:

Grieg: Peer Gynt Suites #1 & 2 - Bernstein/NYPO

One of the non-Sibelius couplings from the box - haven't listened to this music in ages (it's pretty good!).

I'll report back in the Merikanto thread.

... music is not only an 'entertainment', nor a mere luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual if not of the physical life, an opening of those magic casements through which we can catch a glimpse of that country where ultimate reality will be found.    RVW, 1948

Hey Orfeo, nothing too interesting - I deleted my old account in a fit of pique and ended up starting a new one (again) not long after.
I don't know if anyone else feels the same but there's been a few times (over the 8 or so years I've been here) when I got a bit bored of the Forum and felt strongly that I didn't want to participate anymore - but there's no escape from GMG for someone like me I guess. :)

For a first listen - great as expected.
Dare I say it, but this is becoming my favorite Shostakovich Symphony Cycle.

Only if your mind is so attuned. I see it as great work of art.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

That is a fantastic set that I forget about and don't listen to nearly enough.  I just bought the Phantasm/Tye set and will be preoccupied with it for now, but will jump to Fretwork soon.

I can answer as I was just looking at the album myself: Howard Skempton, Michael Gordon, David Lang, Kevin Volans, Pablo Ortiz, Louis Andriessen, Gabriel Jackson, Steve Reich, Terry Riley.  According to the blurb most things are first recordings.

The artist is exhibiting her body in a revealing pose, she's asleep, her head is turned away, she has no chance to respond to our gaze. Defenceless, passive and silenced, laid bare for the the viewer.

The way he's lit it is also interesting.

Oh.  I was confused by the use of Ars Nova in the title.  Thanks.
