Kyle, this all your fault! ;)

Now listening:

Listening to the Violin Concerto with Frank Peter Zimmermann. Excellent performance.

I'll join you this morning, John.

Schumann - Violin Concerto in D minor, With Gidon Kremer, Harnoncourt and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.  Mmm...the Langsam movement is so lovely.

I wish you guys wouldn't do this.  It's very clubby and exclusive.  Supposedly in some post months ago, perhaps even in some private communication, you learned that the poster known as "Mrs. Flibble" is in fact Cyril from Neasden.  I've even seen people here do this without a reference to an earlier post.  "Well, Wendell, I agree completely..."

Really?  ???  I didn't realize that this was the case.  I never considered addressing a poster using their real first name is anything but friendly (of course, if the person doesn't mind being called by their first name on a board, which I don't).

I'm fine if people just stick with ChamberNut, or for Sarge - "Nut".  ;D

You'll always be Nut...or a nut, to me, Nut  8)

I can see Daverz's point though. And it can get confusing, especially with 63 Daves on board  :D

he was as f*cked-up as you are."

It would also make it easier if the Daves on the board would have usernames that don't contain the name "Dave" in them.  ;D

63 sounds about right, Sarge.  ;D

I remember listening to that piece back in my Charlottesville days, and being deeply disappointed in it.

However, my ears have changed a good deal since then . . . time to give it a fresh try!

Just got this recording and am listening to the Piano Quintet, No. 2; fantastic work!

I had only known the first quintet, and had heard about there being a second - but only just now hunted it down and found this CD.

:)

Delighted that you like it!

Winnipegger is the proper term.  ;D

Franco-Manitobain is another one.

I thought it was Friggin-Manitobian...

Ah, how I remember those days of delighting in Winnipeg's fine urban architecture.*

Now:

Seemed like a logical progression from Schumann, listening to Symphony No. 5. Table pounding performance for sure.

Great to see you getting into some Mahler, John! Solti's Fifth is the best of his cycle and one of the finest performances of this symphony on record.

Excellent, Karl, and bonjour.  Yes, this work had an immediately powerful impact on me.  Let us know your thoughts when you have a chance to revisit it.

I'm a Cobber*, so yes -- we'd take trips up to Winnipeg on a reasonably regular basis (more often than the Twin Cities, almost... I've been to the zoo like three times... I seem to recall a planetarium, rumors of a high crime rate, and my exasperation when I first realized that you could not take home an purchased, opened, but unfinished bottle of wine in a restaurant.
