While finally reading volume 1 of Stephen Walsh's biography of Stravinsky (years after having read vol. 2  :-[ ), this is on my stereo:

The sound is dated, but the playing is wonderful.

You were friends with Schubert back in the day?

Gilels live in the Hammerklavier from the Russian legends box.

Edit: My first classical piano concert was actually by Emil Gilels, in Trondheim, Norway somewhere in the first half of the 1970ies.

To this day I have no recollection at all of what he might have been playing.

Revisiting this set - and it proves more worthwhile than the 1st time around with the music and performances opening up more to me. Davidsson is not a particularly adventurous performer but the "academic" feel I had before has lessend. Davidsson is subtle but varied, though I still feel his tempi are slightly bit rigid in some places.

An impressive set with an elaborate booklet and a beautifully recorded awesome organ.

But still curious how this would compare to Davidsson's remake for Loft records.... :)

Sounds mighty promising.

Edit: Fine music, very good recording, not the most polished of performances. On amazon this would be 4 stars from me.

You beat me to it! :D So, it should get it? :)

That could go both ways. 5 stars is a must buy, 3 stars a thread varily.

If you are as fascinated with Caldara as me (and feel that this Viennese pariod is underappreciated) and in addition is fresh out of first class (5 star) Zelenka on Nibiru, Accent and Supraphon to buy, I would say go for it. Steven Midgley on amazon, usually a steady reviewer, likes it a lot.

Undoubtedly Bruckner's finest symphony
