Give it a listen. I think you'll be surprised. I mean, it's modern, but not at all weird. I never would have guessed Stockhausen as the composer. No sputtering serial-sound, no electronics, no weird vocals/extended-techniques. Just good orchestral music. I think I'll download it to iTunes, in fact. It's actually easier for me to listen to, than, say, Schoenberg's "Five Pieces for Orchestra".
So you're saying it's a gateway piece ...  ;D

I might get a chance at work tomorrow to youtube it.

I only know the second recording, so my question is whether I should get the first!  I'd be paricularly interested to hear what you have to say about Es ist das heil uns kommen her, which I see as his main masterpiece for keyboard.

Dear Brilliant,
Please lock Bart van Oort in a studio with a few fortepianos, scores for all of Beethoven's piano sonatas, and don't let him out until he delivers.

Sounds like a great idea! :) I had such hopes before - with the (also Dutch) Paul Komen.

But somehow his period instruments cycle on Globe faltered... But fortunately Brilliant does not mess about! :D

And Komen is young enough for a second try. He appears to be enlisted with a new Dutch label, DRC.

I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

Indeed...I'm especially enamored of this 99. Definitely a candidate for my favorite "Cat."
