Viktor KOSENKO (Ukraine 1896 – 1938)
11 Preludes in the form of old dances, op. 19
Natalya Shkoda, piano
A very challenging set of pieces, as the difficulty increases the tempo must remain the same.   There's a big Passacaglia as one of the variations.
Ferdinand RIES:  Concerto for 2 horns    Violin concerto
Overtures: Die Räuberbraut and Liska oder die Hexe von Gyllensteen
Die Kölner Akademie  (period instrments)   Anton  Steck, violin

This fairly recent acquisition did not get more that a few test runs.

Quite undeservedly,  because it is a gemm! :)

Christopher Hogwood plays Louis Couperin's Tombeau de Blancrocher.

The ladies at the court of the Sun King will be very moved by this performance, but they will not be offended.

Slow, poised. Is it too sweet? Does it need to be a bit more . . .  violent? I thought the way he uses the colours of the harpsichord is very affecting. Well recorded. I'm glad to have found it, thanks to Don. Just dipping in more casually to the suites makes me think that his rubato is distinctive, so there's something to explore there.

Still working my way through some recent acquisitions - the Prokofiev just 2 discs, Beethoven 5 CDs (in addition to the standard piano trios, includes a number of trio transcriptions accounting for the extra disc), and about done w/ the large Scarlatti box!  Dave :)
