I ordered mine from Italy. Clearly the flights from Italy to the US are slower...     :'( :'( :'(  [still waiting]

Germans are always fully reliable on these logistic issues and the Chilean postal service is doing its work very well, too. Especially considering that the last weekend we had a long holiday here in Chile because of our Independence Day.  :)

There is a Copland Sextet on Naxos that should be very easy to find!

[asin]B005OZDY54[/asin]

Coupled with excellent pieces by Peter Schickele, Libby Larsen, and Peter Lieuwen.

"a very fine tasting menu of American chamber music....The recording is good, but turn up the volume a bit or else - by some odd trick - it sounds as if everyone is seated very far apart from each other. This is for fans of good and enjoyable contemporary chamber music, or American music in general, or for those who want to hear Peter Schickele when he's not writing the aural equivalent of slapstick."

Thanks, Brian. And according to that CD's blurb, the Short Symphony came first.

I don't know if it's my mind or the picture itself, but when I see this image I only get to see the feminine member of the group (I mean my attention is totally focused on her) and all her partners look like ghosts.

Ramor Quartet play Bartok 4, 5 and 6. I am extremely impressed - this rivals the second Tatrai cycle for the sort of lyrical emotionally nuanced approach that I like. Major discovery.

I don't think I've heard this work before.

I need another 1400s composer to start looking at, because I am on my way to exhausting Spotify's Ockeghem collection (which is surprisingly substantial, especially considering his relatively small output). Who should it be? Dufay? Josquin des Prez? If there was one non-Ock album for me, which one would it be?
This popped up on Hyperion's Please Buy Me page, so I ordered it even though I have one of the masses in one of their two CD anthologies.

Not you.  She is wearing light colors near the focal point of the image, while they are wearing mostly dark colors to her sides.  And the looming clarinetist and that wierd circle of light increase the effect.

Dark exposure and the gents' black outfits  vs. the prominent legs & a light blouse. I'm sure it's intentional marketing.

Beautiful earlier solo piano Suk. I certainly recommend the set for anyone even slightly interested in the repertoire.

It's a great big box, indeed, Dave. Some great interpretations and a piece of history of the HIP movement. I have duplicated roughly a third of its content, but I'm OK with that.

I ordered from Amazon.de because shipping and handling were considerably lower: EUR 9 v/s EUR 29 on JPC. Also because the asking price was convenient then: EUR 105, when I pre-ordered this box in August.

I'm curious about how many of these "effects" were added because of the way in which Jens took the photography of the cover.

This is the original picture:

Brahms' VC.

Could Busch be Nate's ideal violinist?  About him, Grove sez : "Although he commanded a superb technique, he disliked showmanship and superficial charm, and concentrated on showing the true qualities of the music with honesty, clarity and intensity.  Among the characteristics of his playing were a careful control of vibrato, sparing use of portamento, and subtle variation in shades of staccato and legato."

Boy, you piqued my interest right off the bat w/ the set above!  Checked my rather extensive Boccherini collection and despite having numerous 'String Quintets', the Op. 29 works were not there - WOW!  Might try a 'used' copy from the Amazon MP - looking forward to what else may be in that box?  Dave :)

Brahms, Johannes - Symphonies et al w/ Otto Klemperer - believe that I'll do some comparative listening w/ one of my other sets, i.e. Dohnanyi w/ the Clevelanders + the Violin Concerto w/ Zehetmair on the fiddle - Dave :)

QUICK!

Josef Suk's Summer's Tale. Choose your favorite recording available on Naxos Music Library: Belohlavek/Chandos, Pesek/Virgin, or Mogrelia/Naxos? I want to listen.

EDIT: While waiting for an answer, I will take Dave's inspiration and listen to Zehetmair play Brahms.
