Lord save me, but when I see A Royal Night of Variety, I tend to read The Queen's Cabaret . . . .

And why not? After all, it's exactly what it says on the tin. It was written as the epilogue to a live radio broadcast. An outro, complete with pauses for the presenter to speak.

You have to decide. Are you listening to Alfven or Atterberg?

Lol...it was a force of habit to add in that 'f' to Atterberg's Alven. ;)

Madiel

First listen to Nielsen's piano trio.

AKA Early Beethoven about 90 years after the fact...

I bought this on the back of a recommendation I read on here. And I'm glad I did, because its great! However I'm now about to go for the Rostropovich/Karajan as apparently that's an also considered something of a classic performance?
"You overestimate my power of attraction," he told her. "No, I don't," she replied sharply, "and neither do you".

Nicolas Gombert Magnficats 1-4 played by the Tallis Scholars. These magnificats by Gombert are a real major discovery for me, important music historically I think, and, if you're interested in early counterpoint, very fascinating music to listen to. It's helping me appreciate the organists in a new way.

Well, you are referring to Älven!!!   In the Swedish language 'Ä' is a very different vowel sound than 'A'. It can also severely change the meaning of the word.

Scriabin: Prometheus, The Poem of Fire (Alexander Toradze, piano / Kirov Orchestra / Valery Gergiev)
Stravinsky: The Firebird (Kirov / Gergiev)

Nothing like either of these to get adrenaline going - wish the Scriabin (with chorus) would appear on concerts more often.
