More from the Kovacevich big box.  I've never heard him play Chopin before, and this assortment is good enough, though not world beating in any work.

Now:

Listening to Vox Amoris. So gorgeous and exquisitely performed. Harry, have you received your Vasks Wergo recordings yet?

I got the email this morning, that part of it is sent to me, 7 others are in backorder, this is one of them. :(
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

That stinks, Harry. Well, hopefully you'll get them soon enough. :) I really love the Vox Amoris and Viatore recordings. I haven't received the Credo recording yet.

Simply gorgeous watercolor sketch by Felix Mendelssohn.

Uh, and he wrote the music too.

And it is a lovely watercolor . . . makes me think of Tolkien's watercolors, actually.

Richard Egarr playing the Goldberg Variations. He plays all the repeats and does so very imaginatively. And  each variation is given its own character too.

I like the way he plays so reflectively, avoiding bravura  and motoric tension. if Egarr plays Scarlatti like this, it may be worth hearing.

There are lots of notes in his phrases. I don't see yet why that should be a hardship. This work isn't so rhetorical that small cell articulation is needed is it?

He uses a refined and sensual instrument, IMO the sound is well enough engineered.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

The second disc I have been listening today is this to almost all unknown composer, that is nevertheless worth to be heard.

Paavo Berglund's only BIS recording.

Remarks by BIS CEO Robert von Bahr: "This is the only CD I had the opportunity to do with the then doyen of Finnish conductors, Paavo Berglund, world famous for his Sibelius interpretations. He was tough as nails with the orchestra, the newly formed New Stockholm Chamber Orchestra, but it paid off. I remember how weird it looked, when he grabbed his violin to explain how he wanted the Tchaikovsky and Dvorák Serenades played - he was not a very verbal person - he was left-handed and had restrung his violin to play it mirror-imaged. Anyway, me speaking Finnish, we got along really well, but that was the only CD we ever made."

Harry

Fourth CD today, an old favourite of mine, but I doubt very much of anybodies else. :)
