In each movement he starts at the beginning and proceeds to the end.
Usually the best way of playing a movement!

I have those... I think you would do well with Barenboim (closest to Chailly of those, not surprisingly, but still more brawny) and, yes, Odense. They are very different than any of those. I wonder if the Rattle-Berlin recordings might be a bit in the sleek direction the Odense Orchestra is taking Schumann... they might be, if that former combo were to play Schumann like they play there Brahms. (http://ionarts.blogspot.com/2010/03/dip-your-ears-no-100.html). Alas, I've not heard them yet.
Thanks - just listened (streaming) to Odense's Schumann No. 1 and it really is a ton of fun! Will happily try the rest this week, although I do see they chose the inferior (to my ears) later version of No. 4...have a hunch that their chosen performing style will make it work in the way that the more concise original version works.

Yes it took me a long time to arrive at a sentence with such perfect poetic concision and undeniable verisimilitude.

Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber muss man schweigen

After happily blitzing through the awesome Gaudenz/Odense Schumann 1, 4, and 3 (thanks, Jens!), I'm now checking out more Gaudenz recordings.

Some interesting fashion choices by both of them, in that photo.

I really like the dissonances in Gesualdo's music.

Listening to The Light That Fills The World. One of the things I love about JLA's idiom is how it reflects nature and seems to be about some kind of transcendence or trying to get beyond what we see in the mountains, oceans, and skies. Music that's suspended in time.

Brooklyn Rider plays two rather desultory pieces of imitation pop music and an absolutely breathtaking performance of Op. 131—fully the equal of Juilliard '60 and very, very few others. Would be nice if their taste in contemporary music was as good as their taste in Beethoven, but I'm not gonna wait around, lmao.
