Some Bach tonight:

I honestly cannot remember the last time I enjoyed the Goldberg Variations as much as I am with this recording, and the funny thing is I cannot say why. Perhaps I shouldn't think about it, and just savor the moment.  In any case, bravo, Bruno Canino:) :) :)

This is my preferred recording on piano of this work.
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

Morning listening:

I believe I've said it before: the Missa prolationum is an amazing masterpiece. Johannes Ockeghem in my eyes proves himself to be a master in the same category as Josquin Desprez and Orlandi di Lasso. I'm surprised not to find a glowing review by Amazon's Gio (formely known as Giordano Bruno), like he did for the recording of Missa Cuiusvis Toni by the same ensemble. Maybe he was busy?  8)

Missa brevis in G major KV 49 (1768)
Missa brevis in D minor KV 65 (1769)

The liner notes include an excellent essay on sacred music written by Nikolaus´brother Philipp, Catholic theologian and priest.

Giving this another go, since I was slightly underwhelmed the first time around:

PS I am still not wowed by this recording and agree with the reservations expressed in the Amazon reviews and subsequent comments.
Conceptually, a "constructed" vespers like this with a mix of motets other choral pieced and contemporary organ pieces is not appealing for me. For the motets I prefer the collection by Singer Pur (Oehms): those are perhaps more "detached" and "abstract" in interpretation, yet paradoxically more intsense and penetrating. The organ performances are subdued as well... No, this sounds nice but isn't going to catch fire..... ::)

Tonight's listening:

Symphony #1, "Kamui-Chikap Symphony"

I cant get into Yoshimatsu's other Symphonies yet but this one is brilliant.

Symphony #8, "Pastoral"

Another mellow one..

A most wonderful start with this box of the music at the times of Louis XIV. Very much recommended. New acquisition, first listen.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Excellent! And after I finish it, I´ll join you in listening to that Hyperion series, of which I have lots of voiumes.

All while continuing my Brahms chronological exploration.

Ah, isn´t life beautiful?  8)

Harry, it's a hotchpotch which is not really my thing...

But I'm still mildly intersted - what do you consider a "marginal investment" ? :)
