Mahlerian

Nothing wrong with a break no matter how prolonged it is. The thing that I'm now finding out with Mahler once you really love his music is it's under your skin for good. There's just no escaping it (not that this is what I'd want to do of course).

If there's a cure for Mahleria, I haven't found it yet!
"l do not consider my music as atonal, but rather as non-tonal. I feel the unity of all keys. Atonal music by modern composers admits of no key at all, no feeling of any definite center." - Arnold Schoenberg

;D And I wouldn't want a cure! I'm proud to call myself a Mahlerian now.

The 9th in particular is a very rare work for me, I don't know how to go about describing it without sounding like I'm claiming it's an evil, satanic piece of music made to destroy

Even though I read my copy of the score regularly, I try to keep my listening of that (very melancholy and haunting masterpiece) to a minimum nowadays.
:-\

His 6th and Wunderhorn are the complete opposite though, I get tremendous excitement from those too!  ;)

The 9th is truly special indeed. It affects me deeply the more I hear it.

Unless you're being humoursome, you're definitely a Mahlerian

Ha, I am just a big fan of the 7th!

Almost finished Mahler's 7th, I think it requires extra focused listening on my behalf, it's really good!

Nice to see you picked one of the ones of which I spoke in favour 8)

Listening to this one now, considerably more profound than Dudamel (and this is one of my favourites)

Well, I shall acquire it. A recommendation from you always implies interesting experiences.

I have now listened to it three times. I am sure you will not regret buying it.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

The two-piano version of the officially three-piano concerto. This is one of those rare times I'm happy with an "arrangement".

Not surprisingly, a bright and sparkling work.

Dudamel can be overhyped, but he can deliver.  Mahler 7 is middle of the road, but his M9 is one I would put in the top tier, with Maderna, Levine-Munich, Zinman, Barbirolli, and Klemperer.

Seems on par with his other Bach recordings.

Now that is an arresting recommendation.

New acquisition. First listen. Shoots to the top of my list. Recommended with urgency. Take my word for it, you would not want to be without this one.
