Holmboe: Symphony No.2, then Sinfonia in Memoriam, then Symphony No.8.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Good morning, Harry!

After the superb Missa Solemnis by Reuss & co., continuing with new arrivals: at the moment, a most excellent rendition of Medtner's Piano Concerto No. 1 by Jayson Gillham and the Melbourne SO.

Very satisfied, my only quibble is that as in Volume III the solo cadenzas can be very lengthy and somewhat outstay their welcome...

That was my problem too with this set, the Caprices!
But that's my only problem with the set.

TD
The neighbor's wonky car alarm that woke me up way too early on my day off.

Never felt like that, I thought them to more than welcome, for it shows how good a composer he was, and therefore in fact I thought them to be to short. :)

Looks nice, how is it?  :)

Q

It's exquisite! The recording is maybe a little more reverberant than necessary, but the performance is vivid, evocative, almost flawless. A big plus: the Pleni sunt cæli et terra... section in the Sanctus is sung by the excellent soloists (as Beethoven intended) and not by the (equally excellent) choir (as per usual practice nowadays). I much prefer it this way, especially with this kind of dedicated singing and playing. The orchestra is also superb throughout.

CD 17 of this reference set.
Joining Que and Jeffrey in the pleasure of the long caprices. Well I like them long, the longer the better.

Thanks, I'll investigate!  :) Meanwhile I have still Herreweghe waiting for a first listen.

It would be great of at least one period performance could satisfactory tackle this incredibly hard piece of music to get right...

( No, it's definitely not Gardiner IMO)

Artem

Gubaidulina's Viola Concerto. Listened to it with headphones and found it very enjoyable.

WORKS FOR VIOLIN: Concert Three

Telemann: Violin Sonata in A from Tafelmusik, TWV 41:A4 (Musica Antiqua Köln)
Beethoven: Violin Sonata No.2 in A, op.12/2 (Cerovsek, Jumppanen)
Holmboe: Violin Sonata No.3, op.89 (Hansen, Bjørkøe)

Maestro267

Lutoslawski: Chain II - Interlude - Partita
Bakowski (violin)/Polish NRSO/Wit

These three works were composed separately, but I enjoy listening to them in one go, effectively turning them into a large-scale Violin Concerto in three movements. Lutoslawski wrote the Interlude as a bridge between the other two works.
