Beecham's Elgar is excellent to my ears. I wish he'd liked his music a bit more! :(

Saw these in the Nielsen thread and realized I've never listened to any of these chamber works before, so a first time listen for me! I love Nielsen's symphonies, concertos and other various symphonic works so it's no surprise that I'm enjoying these...

My copy (different from the one in the image) has nearly nothing -- tracklist, lots of photos of Jordi, and a journalist's article.

Wow! That your photo?  :o  Tickets for Christie's original 80s run of Atys. If so color me jealous. And I wouldn't mind having the LP set either.

Well, that's the point of my question.
The different issue you might have - like me - is this:

It's 3 discs less, bulky and with negible documentation.

I wonder if the new issue, which saves space and has extra music, also is a step up in documentation.

I did not know what you meant by documentation. I just read your latest post and realized what you were asking. I call that liner notes or album notes.

It comes with a 36 page booklet but that offers nothing but the track listings and a brief bio of Mr. Savall in 3 languages.

Language barrier... :D

Slightly dissapointing news, but thanks!  :)

I'm wondering to myself if this recording of Art of Fugue by Jens Christensen is an early example of digital playing. According to France-orgue he recorded the trio sonatas, is that a mistake?

The Bach recordings I know he made are (for Kontrapunkt) AoF, CÜ III and the Orgelbüchlein, and for Helicon a CD with mostly free Bach Works, the passacaglia among them all on the organ of Vor Frelsers Kirke, København. I have never seen a recording of the triosonatas in Kontrapunkt's catalogue, so I doubt it exists. I feel tempted to write a mail to him and ask.

Mendelsshon: String Symphonies 12 and 11

On Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Jugendsymphonien-Symphonic-Movement/dp/B000025UNY

I love the full symphony string section treatment here.

Also: Mendelssohn: (all growed up) Symphony No. 1 - Dohnanyi/Cleveland

[asin] B00000IX8S[/asin]

Have really been warming up to this symphony, especially in this recording.  Good as it is, I can imagine a recording with more transparency and color, though.

Symphony No. 7 (by Mennin!)

In the Martinon/Chicago box:

This must be the best performance and recording of any Mennin work ever.
