Jocelyne Cuiller and Jan Belder play the cantabile from Wq 55 / 3

Belder's performance can't hold a candle to Cuiller's. He's unimaginative at the level of phrasing, agogics and dynamics. His instrument is less beautiful. His cantabile is less lyrical. He sounds rushed and shallow.

I don't agree with this. Cuiller only plays the third movement of this sonata, Belder builds the whole thing, quite admirably I will add.

Additionally, well, the instruments are hardly comparable: Belder plays a nice, but "strong" fortepiano, while Cuiller plays a delicate clavichord.

Obviously she wants to milk every drop of sensibility of this first track of her disc.

Hear, hear, exactly my thoughts too.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,

I have no favourite piece, what I hear is all good.

And on another note, Hyperion has announced that their full price CD'S will from now on be 10,50 English pounds, thats an amazing price drop.

Not all is rosy in the land of Hyperion....

"Our website prices have changed
FULL-PRICE HYPERION CDs are now £10.50 on our website
Regular CD-purchasers may have noticed that we've changed our CD prices. We will now (and with some regret) be charging Postage & Packing, but to compensate we've significantly reduced the prices of the discs themselves. UK and Europe customers will, we hope, be pleasantly surprised."

I need to hear other, preferably at least almost as brilliant Frescobaldi recordings, any suggestions?

It is difficult and dangerous to recommend recordings of Frescobaldi´s music, because the subjective factor is so prominent.

Some like Vartolo e.g., others find him tiresome.

From the top of my head:

Recently I have been very impressed by the expressivity of Hank Knox´two Frescobaldi recordings:

http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/Girolamo-Frescobaldi-1583-1643-Cembalowerke/hnum/1825028

and if you can find Pierre Hantaï´s Frescobaldi disc (Astrée):

http://www.amazon.fr/Partite-Toccate-Frescobaldi/dp/B000024Q8J/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1386955384&sr=1-2&keywords=frescobaldi+pierre+hanta%C3%AF

it is well worth considering.

Pierre Hantaï´s Frecobaldi CD is part of this box, which also contains other fine recordings e.g. the Bull CD

Thanks, gentlemen!

Vartolo and Knox (both recordings) are on Spotify - listening to Knox now, this is very nice.
I've had my eye on that Hantaï box for some time. And ordered it now.  :)

Well you could hardly accuse Belder of milking it for sensibility. What do you think he was trying to do in that performance?

That's an easy one: He's trying to sing. Quite successfully, IMO.

Good day, everybody!
I take it that the Schubie, too, is a first listen of that performance only, right, Karl?! That would be a shocker if that wasn't the case!  ???
How is the Pluhar Vespro?

Try to hear Leonhardt's recording of the Capprici. I think that the caprrici are Frescobaldi's most interesting keyboard pieces.

If not, try Alessandrini, Aapo Häkkinen, Pierre  Hantai, Sergio Vartolo, Enrico Baiano, Francesco Tristano Schlime, John Butt.
