Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 8 C minor "Pathetique" played by HJ Lim (one of her more insane performances  :D )

"....the first movement is generally fairly aggressive...The adagio suffers from the tiniest little flaws...Lim's finale hits the spot, though." Brian Rheinhart, Musicweb

"By the finale, regrettably, the performance has long since become wearying." Jonathan Woolf, Musicweb

"'Lim plays [the Pathetique] with remarkable authority and panache." Dominy Clements, Musicweb

Now:

Listening to Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1. Such a fantastic performance and my preferred performance of this work. I think this is a true marriage of soloist/conductor where each are pulling their own weight and offering some different insights into music.

Listen to what the (Swiss) Cat Dragged In:

One after another. Absolutely LOVED volumes 1 and 2... and still loved 3 and 4 very much, too... What a lovely surprise. Very well put together programs.

I liked her ecstatic Art of Fugue very much (I remember being addicted to how she plays cpt 2 for a while.) I also heard her CU 3 but it never made a strong positive impression like Art of Fugue.

The sound is excellent. I did an AB comparison between the blu-ray and CD and the blu-ray is noticeably better.  The surround mix really works for this.

Good value too you get the blu-ray,  a separate CD and can copy the FLAC /ALAC / WAV / MP3 files from the blu-ray if you have a networked bluray player.

Barshai's 7th is quite good but he holds no candle to Bernstein's with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, but I understand you're still trying to get this music under your skin. Happy listening!

Yep, I sure did. Time to honor another favorite composer of mine: Steve Reich. 8) BTW, I change my avatar a lot.
