Quantz, Johann (1697-1773) - Flute Concertos & Sonatas w/ Benedek Csalog on a Baroque flute - now I already own a half dozen discs of this composer's flute works, including 4 w/ Mary Oleskiewicz (left a long post yesterday in the 'Old Instruments' thread, if interested) and really enjoy her performances (one of her CDs in my collection shown below).

So, I was surprised after reading a comparative review on Fanfare of this disc w/ the flutist shown in the first two covers below, and a preference of the reviewer - well, I decided to see if Spotify had these Benedek recordings for streaming and indeed each was available - now I'm not sure that these are preferable to those w/ Mary O. (and all of the sonatas are different) but the review is attached - Dave

Haydn: Symphonies 86 & 87 / Harnoncourt....





I found this set of Paris Symphonies to be wonderfully strong performances, well paced and articulate. I think that these will become a highly favoured set of performances of these works for me.
