Had my first real introduction to the music of Rautavaara today. Beautiful, engaging and mysterious. Excited to keep going....

Hat tip to Neal for making me aware of these recordings.

New acquisition, First listen. Reference interpretation and state of the art recordings. I am mightily impressed.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Love that disc.

A composer that does not yet fit in my perception, maybe someday :)

Takemitsu: Toward the Sea (original version for alto flute and guitar)

For a missing friend. Hoping to see him again soon.

Gorgeous work and a favorite of mine.

The last CD of this day, have to make dinner, but be sure that the melodies of this recording will resonate through the kitchen, preparing home made pizza's. After that I have to tune a very old Bosendorfer, that will take some time too. So some harmonious thoughts in my head will be good.

That was one of my first ever (pre-)classical discs - still like it a lot!

Spent quite a lot of time with the recent Arrau RCA/Columbia albums set, but today (working from home, for a change), I played four discs out of this:

first one with Bach/Busoni, Franck, Balakirev, Debussy and Ravel, second with F. Couperin, Rameau, Lully and Daquin, and then two with music by Schumann

You know Karl, that made me laugh quite a long time.
Large ears indeed
Well I do not know anyone in my friends list here and abroad, that has more composers in the alphabet as I have. It can be a curse to have such a large and wide appetite.  :)

Alfvén: Symphony No. 1 [Jarvi]....

A first listen to this work for me and it did not engage me at all. I hope that this is not a forerunner of things to come with this composer.
