Carl Vine's Percussion Symphony

Never heard him before but I'm impressed!  :D
Vine is very good, I have his symphony and quartet sets on ABC Classics.

Symphonies 1, 4.2 and the first Piano Sonata are excellent as well!

Listening to this recording for only the second time I think:
Wow! :D

Madiel

Must continue working through the Vine symphonies myself...

But it's been a Lemminkainen afternoon for me.

Sumera: Symphony No. 1 [Jarvi] -

I love the opening fanfare and the mysterious music which follows in the first movement which is also present in the second movement along with some very powerful music too.

Now playing:

Kirkpatrick's Book 1 - shame about the SQ but its easily overlooked in this recording.

Listening to another Book 1 (guess I was feeling enthusiastic today) :)

Madiel

Piano Concerto No.15 is turning out to be one of the most immediately appealing.

This, on repeat.

I can''t have enough of it. The ethereal purity and beauty, the most sincerely heartfelt and expressed religious sentiment, the soaring melodies --- it''s pure bliss! The music flows as gently as the air stirred by angels' wings...

Chesnokov is rapidly becoming one of my favorite sacred music composers.

He must have been one of the most ill-fated composers: the Cathedral Jesus the Saviour, where he was a choirmaster for many years, was destroyed by the direct order of Stalin. The shock he received from this major cultural, social and religious crime was tremendous: he stopped composing altogether and remained silent for the last 10 years of his life.

Every kind of music is good, except the boring kind. — Rossini

Solid performances of fine music in good sound, bur WTF is the texts to these unknown Russian poems? A major minus!

Thankfully I got it cheap from jpc.

He's a favourite of mine, as well. I can't find this particular recording among my streaming options, but I did locate a promising rendition of his Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom for later listening.

Mahler: Das Klagende Lied [Nagano]....

A very fine, smooth and rounded performance.

Yes I understand him. Such a thing would devastate me too. Poor chap!

When the days will be shorter and colder, I will start with my 5 complete Bach organ sets, which I bought this and last year. Isoir is amongst them.

I had planned to listen to one side of this album only this afternoon but it is so pleasant that I flipped it and continued. The mellow toned instruments are wonderfully caught by the sound engineers.
