Yes, indeed!  ::)    Blame YouTube!    :)

I've blamed YouTube years ago. ;) Enjoy, Peter!

This can only be described as impulse (or news-induced) buying  :-[, but who cares, any excuse is good, right?  ;):

The rationalization: I greatly admired Petrenko live in Bayreuth last year, I'm unfamiliar with Suk's music, and these CDs were soooo cheap at jpc.

The Asrael Symphony that started this cycle is OOP and outrageously expensive!  >:(

Very nice, ritter. I can't say I'm familiar with Petrenko's traversal of Suk, so please let me know what you think. If you end up liking this music, you may want to get the Supraphon set at some point. It's excellent.

Thread duty:

After much back and forth in my own mind and with other members here, I decided to pull the trigger on this highly-acclaimed cycle.

Ahh, these look great! Have you sampled Janowski's Strauss in the past, John?  What made you wander towards the Straussian realm after your long Scandinavian journey?  ;)

Probably because there were no more CDs of Scandinavian music to buy.

I've been listening to the Isokoski last week, it's among my absolutely top favourite Vier letzte Lieder (and a thrilling disc, overall - as is her Luonnotar one). Janowski's Alpensinfonie is excellent. His Symphonia Domestica is on my wishlist, so I'll be waiting your impressions on that one.

I've had my eyes on Janowski's Strauss for quite some time. I've actually been listening to Strauss off/on during my Scandinavian phase (which is still very much in full swing). For me, you can never own enough Strauss and any newcomer, especially when it comes to the tone poems, will receive my attention at some point or another.

:P You bring up an interesting point, I need to get out my Peterson-Berger recordings on CPO. 8)

Great to hear, Wanderer. Yes, her disc of Sibelius orchestral songs (+ Luonnotar) is excellent. I'll definitely let you know my impressions of the Symphonia Domestica recording with Janowski. I'll be honest and say I don't know this work as well as I should.

I admire your courage here, Peter. Is this unknown territory for you? I like a good bit of the Second Viennese School, but I seldom listen to them these days. I might play Berg's Three Pieces for Orchestra or Schoenberg's Five Pieces for Orchestra every now and then.
