I just listened to his "Meditation for String Quartet" which I really enjoyed!
I will check out your posts in the composer thread  :)

Very nice. I don't think I've heard this work yet.

Did you buy this from Amazon Germany as well, Peter?

Edit: Okay, I see you linked the Amazon Germany product page for this set. Glad you took advantage of this offer as well.

Yes, Am.de tends to have much better prices!

With more reasonable prices plus I don't have to pay tax on the purchase.

Just bought:

This is the only installment of Thomson's Nielsen cycle that I could find for a decent price. The other recordings are quite expensive.

Ordered just now the new Sony Masterworks of the 20th Century budget box from Arkivmusic's One Day Sale.  Almost all of it is music I've never heard, except a bit of Boulez and Ives.

I had been considering this set for quite a while, and lo!, I saw a new and very affordable copy today in a shop just down the street from home:

I like the way you manage the anxiety, Que.

I recall to us speaking about this recording some years ago. Well done.  :)

Thanks, Mirror Image!  I've read wonders of it, and a good friend here in Spain said it was a must. Really enjoying The Wooden Prince at the moment  :)

Yeah, Dorati was a master Bartokian. Glad you're enjoying it so far.

One Amazon reviewer claims these Arkivmusic transcrips are markedly inferior to the original releases. ? Whom is one to believe ?

If you're talking about the sound on these Arkiv CDRs, I'd always wondered myself if there was a drop off in quality compared to the original. That didn't stop me from buying a few of them, though.

But luck would have it that one day I managed to pick up an original release (cheaply) of a CDR that I'd already bought and so the opportunity arose to compare the two. Result? Nary a difference between the two sonically. Nada. Zilch. Identical in every way. Obviously lossless.

That's the word from this corner of the world, anyway.

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

I usually try and avoid CD-Rs, but if they're a direct copy from the original CD than there obviously won't be any loss in the audio quality. I have several Naxos CD-Rs and have replaced those CD-Rs with the original CDs and, like you said, DD, there's no difference between them.

I've purchased from ArkivMusic, no issues here.
