Parsifal

Just arrived:

[asin]B00005ONOX[/asin]

I listened to the Sonatina.  I thought Bavouzet was good, then I listened to this.  !!!!

This edition is newly out of print, which means snap it up before it disappears, or wait for them to do a better job of remastering.  (The recently re-done Debussy sounds a lot better to my ears.)

Here's my keyboard trinity:

Davitt Moroney (Clavecin, Harmonia Mundi), Andre Isoir (Organ, Calliope), Grigory Sokolov (Piano, Naive).

Not Pierre-Laurent Aimard, sadly... which is less than it should have been...

Honorable mention Walcha (organ, Archiv)...
and of course there's plenty to be said for (or against) Glenn Gould. (mix & match, CBS/Sony)

I've not been asked, but I'd like to add Nikolaeva:

Don hasn't chimed in yet -- I'll bet he goes for Nikolayeva or Feltsman ... or someone we've never even heard of! ;)

Awesome disc, Geo.

That was my first PI anything and first Haydn CD purchase.  I've cherished it for many years now.

Enjoy and looking forward to reading your thoughts on it.
Wise words from Que:

Did the photographer turn up late for the shoot?!

Is this cover a kind of joke? I mean: the art of "fugue", "fuga", from Latin: a running away, flight.  :)

I think the concept of the cover is "can we think of anything besides four guys holding their fiddles and looking at the camera?"

... for this purpose a blank page would be even better. I mean more "radical".  :D

Wiki states that fuga could either mean to flee or to chase. The latter seems closer to the meaning of ricercar(e), which I think means to go in search of (or something along those lines).

Preliminary signs indicate that it will be worth the seven dollars it cost me including shipping. ;)  (Yes, I'll give some real thoughts on it when it arrives.)

Don's go-to AOF versions:

Harpsichord - Gilbert,  Moroney, Hill, Leonhardt, Brookshire
Modern piano - Nikolayeva, Koroliov, Gould (piano/organ mix)
Organ - Weinberger
Fortepiano - Riemer
Multiple Instruments - Savall, Alessandrini

I wasn't planning on ordering anything outside of some of pre-planned orders I have in mind, then some smart ass decided to list this for $10:

kishnevi

Three separate orders today off of Amazon MP.

I was tempted to order a few more CDs off the L'archibudelli Haydn series, until I saw the prices, and they reverted to wishlist status.   Sony/Vivarte needs to issue another budget box, is all I'm saying.

The Mozart was ordered because it's the only one in that series I don't have.

I haven't listened to Brookshire. I will see if it's available somewhere.

I don't recall Weinberger with great affection, but maybe it's time for a new listen. I would also recommend Alessio Corti (it's included into his integral recording of Bach's organ works, but there are also some unofficial live recordings circulating on Internet).
