Interesting timing. After years of zero compendiums of the complete Lutoslawski piano music, with only a handful of pieces appearing on miscellaneous recitals, this summer I reviewed a compilation on the Dux label, with pianist Veronique Briel, and next year we're getting an album by Corinna Simon. (Another odd coincidence: the pianists are all women.)

Ann Martin-Davis recorded the complete piano music for ASV in the 90s.  She does keep it all female, though.

I generally like Barbirolli's conducting. Is that the only Nielsen symphony that he recorded?

Doing an Amazon search, yes, it appears this is the only Nielsen work he conducted. :(

I'm hoping this will be my last purchase of the year or at least until after Christmas. If I keep telling myself this, I should be fine. ;)

That's a rather optimistically moderate number, I'm sure. 8)

I have decided to go cold Brian for the rest of the year. That is, nothing more, unless it would be stupid not to buy it. The Seon box at under a hundred for example, or The Beaux Arts box at sixty bucks, etc.

Let's see how I do ....

BTW since January 1 my purchases are
- the Annie Fischer Icon box for $20
- the Jean Martinon Columbia box for $25
- a couple CDs at the Montreal Symphony festival I attended, as souvenirs

Oh hey I never properly reported on those. Montreal/Nagano's Mahler Das Lied von der Erde, and a Todd favorite, Benjamin Grosvenor's Dances right after seeing Grosvenor perform a recital literally on a staircase.
