Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Very interesting. The cello concerto disc has repertoire I've never heard before. Will be interested to hear your reaction...

Hi Harry - and I'll be looking forward to your comments on Stradella - checking Amazon USA, there seems to be a lot of his vocal music and less instrumental - do you have other works/recordings by this composer?  Dave :)

I liked, but not loved, the Steckel issue; his/their take on the Korngold concerto (the reason I bought the disc) was decent but not top-rank. I'll be expecting your review with interest.

Hi Dave.
What I have in my collection is very little.
A disc on HMF which I bought in 2000, with cantatas and 2 sinfonias.
And a second with Motets on Virgin, which I bought in 1997.
Since then nothing from Stradella, so this is the first after 15 years.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;

are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

I have to admit I was very curious after the Steckel issue, and bought it as a no risk disc for just 4 euros, realizing from the samples that it was indeed not a top rank recording. For me the Goldschmidt concerto is the prime motivation for checking this one out. I will report back on it.

The Ciconia set is exceptional!

The other one still waits to be played here ... and a flood of stuff has come in here, mostly from discplus' closing-doors-sales:

now you can go ahead and officially declare me nuts, have me locked up and steal my collection  ;D

seriously, it's so sad to see discplus go ... I also bought some jazz they offer for good prices now (50% off everything, unless of course the item is on sale at 80% already, which isn't an uncommon thing)

Good gracious, a mighty haul, you will need a long life to listen to all of that. :o

Hogwood's Mozart arrived today after being stuck in the Sorting Office for a week, without notification.

Let's hope it lives up to the usual high standard of GMG's Super Duper Bargains, a great spot!

Ubu, the Tharaud is excellent, and the Spohr interesting enough and cheap enough that I ordered it on Amazon MP.

Also ordered this morning on AmazonMP

The price dropped on these sets on MP.

The Tharaud was a real bargain (around 9$), the Spohr was a bit more (around 14$), but I'd been eyeing that for a long time and never saw it (new) for such a good price, so I had to go for it ...

That Tharaud is a SDCB!

I paid~$15 for the Spohr including shipping.  I have a feeling vendors are gearing up for Black Friday.

I will miss discplus as well. Despite the prohibitive international  shipping costs, particularly for box sets since they charge per disc, it was my go-to for out of print stuff when anything else failed . You are lucky to be in Switzerland, avoiding crazy shipping costs and customs issues... :)

Meantime I ordered this out of print item, the discount made up for the shipping costs.... 8)
