The new erato

I will see Esfahani with the Concerto Køln in concert here in Bergen this spring.

I had a little leisure time, my wife is sleeping, to order these two items from a site Que recommended, and the Weckman recommendation  came also from him as a very good interpretation. The Schubert simply had a good price tag, still waiting for a good price on the Beethoven set.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

[Paris symphonies]
That is one of the very best Haynd symphonies sets available. (And one of the recordings that Harnoncourt recorded in his old age that I actually like...)
You won't regret it. :)

I agree. I find this mandatory for every lover of these works although it is still eccentric (as to be expected). I once wrote somewhere (and not in jest) that Harnoncourt uses more subtle gradations and kinds of string articulation in the slow movement of the "Bear" than many others use for the whole 6 symphonies...

This box is crazy good.  It's virtually all reference quality.
It's all good...

I'm severely lacking in knowledge. Bought myself a remedy.

some dramatic mark-downs in the delete section of my b&m record store (Sikoras, in Vancouver, worth a visit if you're in the area)
Clara SCHUMANN: 3 Romances, op 22
BRAHMS: Sonata for violin and piano op. 78/1
BRAHMS, SCHUMANN & Albert DIETRICH: F.A.E. Sonata
Isabelle von Keulen, violin   Ronald Brautigam, piano
Sir Ernest MacMILLAN: Cortège Académique, Blanche comme la neige, 3 Songs of the West Coast, String Quartet in c, 2 Sketches based on French Canadian Airs
various performers and sources.  The Amadeus Quartet play the Quartet and Sketches, originally issued on a DGG LP
and some Anonymous pieces played on a organ by an Unknown Builder at Rozay en Brie
I may go back for the 11-lp set of Schubert 4-hand piano pieces, maybe.

I decided I don't need this...and then bought it anyway.  It's a handsome set.  The booklet smells like high gloss photo paper. :-*

I wish reviewers in general could be more specific on the smell of their reviews.

Phew, glad to hear that! I was hesitant about it as I already have the Reiner Conducts Strauss box (which includes several albums originally on Columbia, hence I'll keep it) and some more in the Rubinstein, Heifetz and the first Living Stereo boxes ... but it looks gorgeous for sure!

Here's a Haydn release I've had on my wishlist for years (mostly because people here recommended it):

Here's a recent addition to my list when a few here praised it:

Whenever mdt have an audite sale, I inevitably get one from their Franck series:

I know nothing of this one, but someone posted it here and I really liked the clips:

Not yet released in North America, but those who prefer to download can hop over to eClassical already. I did.

Two Other Movements is unquestionably major Rihm in his post-Mahler/Berg/Hartmann vein.

I haven't heard much of Rihm's more recent music, what's it like? I suppose more neoromantic, as is a common approach for those who made it big in the avant-grade earlier in their career?
