That stack of Virgin ("Erato") 2-fers looks nice.

They all seem to be new reissues, with 2016 copyright dates.
The original releases were mostly from the 1980s.  The most recent is the Scarlatti,  recorded in 1999.

I'm curious about that Dowland / Byrd disk. The cover art is very nice too.

The liner notes claim it is Portrait of a lady called Mary, Countess of Pembroke 1619 by this guy

Although frankly it looks better than most of the portraits shown there.

picked it up at the post office on the way home, stunning, LP-sized box with four "piles" of discs, all stored in fold-out covers with details printed on the inside, housed in a sturdy box that also includes a lavish, LP-sized soft-bound book of quite some pages with plenty of texts (German/English) - looks like a true labour of love!

it got good reviews in the press here (she took Swiss citizenship, so there's just a tiny bit of interest left, it seems) - here's a review:

best price seems to be aIT, cost me around 70€, including a few I had to pay for customs (not the full rate, just the actual swiss VAT, it seems - nice!)

That's a great recording, erato. Do get the Viatore recording as well (if you don't own it already).

Just bought:

I paid a bit more than I wanted for this recording, but it's OOP and both of these works are fantastic symphonies. It'll be great to hear Kondrashin conduct them.

Just heard Gabetta for the first time last summer - wow, what a cellist! But I haven't heard any of her recordings yet. And the Cuckson/McMillen looks extremely interesting - they are both wonders, especially in this repertoire. Comments on any of these welcomed.

I shall report back in the WAYLTN thread.  The Gabetta should be here next week, the Cuckson/McMillen next month.

It'll be interesting to listen to Plácido Domingo revisiting a rôle he apparently garnered a resounding success with at the NYCO some 50 years ago  :o. AFAIK, this is the first commercial recording of extracts from Don Rodrigo (bootlegs of the world première in Buenos Aires are available from reliable sources), and only the second recording of Milena. The 5 Popular Argentine Songs are an orchestration by Shimon Cohen.

It's nice to see Gisèle Ben-Dor offering us some more Ginastera after so many years. I do hope the contents is better that the cover, which is unnecesarily ugly... ::)

Tell us your impressions.  I have been circling around it with interest.

The Gambetta/Chamayou Chopin album is fantastic.  Definitively my favorite interpretation of Chopin cello sonata, which is a really lovely piece.

There was a Bach sale on sheet music plus so now I have finally bought myself an urtext full score of St John Passion. Can't wait for it to arrive!

Nice! Good to see a score purchase on here for once! My next one is definitely going to be Berg's Chamber Concerto, which has pretty much risen to be my favorite piece by anyone in the 2nd Viennese School.
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".
