. . . And speaking of the whole tostada I couldn't help salivating all over your  Bach 2000 USB purchase! Were you able to easily transfer the files into iTunes etc. easily? How are the files organised on the USB? In folders organised by genre??  Say I want a particular work could it be found easily?

I cannot speak to iTunes, Marvin, as I'll have nothing to do with it. I've not tried to do so yet, but I expect a simple drag-&-drop will do the trick.  I fear I neglected Bach while I was on vacation, but I have entirely been enjoying forays into this treasure store.  The folder organization is simple, and I have not had any difficulty navigating it (I also refer frequently to the PDF of the source CD tracklists).

It's official: the drag-&-drop was simplicity itself.  Because of the volume of music, the copying took about an hour, but (to quote the remake of The In Laws) like butter on mashed potatoes.

Good job!  Also, I have that Brahms third but haven't listened to it in a while.  I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on that when it arrives.

Nice to see all the Monteverdi love!

Yep. He's one of the good guys.  :)

Recent discussion here about the Brandenburgs made me hungry for a new set. After listening to clips of recommended (and not recommended) versions, I decided to add Pinnock's to my collection. The Suites were an added incentive. The only other set of PI Suites I own is played by the William Malloch-led Boston Early Music Soloists--which is too manic for my taste. (Malloch calls them, on the cover, Suites for Dancing. But if he valued truth-in-advertising, he would have called them Suites for Slam Dancing.) Arrived yesterday.

This is probably my favorite set.  But don't let that turn you off to it.

:)

I was actually considering this — a good idea on its merits, mind you.

Thank heavens, I realized that I had no business buying another set of Brandenburgs when I've not yet listened to the Il Giardino Armonico recordings on the flash drive edition!

Il Giardino Armonico is one of the rare Brandenburg recordings that I don't enjoy.  I don't have the Pinnock, but was not enthusiastic about other Pinnock recordings of Bach Concerti because I found the playing generally too rigid (so-called sewing-machine style).  Harnoncourt's 80's recording is still my reference.

Vivaldi felt bad because he didn't get anywhere near as much space in the Big Order as Handel, so I had to try to fix that:

EDIT:

Vivaldi got a bit lonelier after this disc turned up on E-Bay for $7 and change with shipping.  Sometimes I think the Invisible Hand Firefox app is going to be the death of me.

I don't know how long this one was lingering in my shopping cart.  I put off getting it at $25.  Now it's out of print!  Price rising rapidly for remaining copies.  Booo Hooo!

The new erato

Due to my soon upcoming 4 week vacation, I am abstaining (to avoid an overstuffed mailbox and possible returned discs!). I feel the pain.

I don't know, I think you've got it wrong. That sounds like returning home on Christmas Day to me.  :)

Not bloody likely!

I'm on my way to that brick as well, perhaps in another month.
