Worth considering? I have some of his Mozart on Glossa and like it, but don't really know it that well yet.

Having sampled the recordings of Symphony #35 and the Clarinet concerto, I must say I find the set a disappointment so far. The sonorities of the original instruments are pleasant and it is nice to hear first and second violins separated left and right, but the performance lack verve. I could have done without them, already having Hogwood's set of Mozart orchestral music. Harnoncourt's RCO recording remain number one on my list.

I found a disc today of music by a name I've never heard before, the Bulgarian-American composer Henri Lazarof. Born in 1932, and still alive when this recording was made, but I've subsequently learned that he died in December 2013.

The disc includes Tableaux, for piano and orchestra, a Violin Concerto, and his Symphony No. 2. Yukiko Kamei is the violin soloist and Garrick Ohlsson the pianist. The Seattle Symphony is conducted by Gerard Schwarz.

It's a very good disc. It prompted me to acquire more Lazarov. But this disc is the best IMHO.

I wasn't aware that Mehta had recorded Nielsen's Inextinguishable and when I did find out (a mere 20 minutes ago), I had to remedy this ASAP!

Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

Thanks premont!

I should've given you a shout-out there as well.  I remember reading that a while back.

Cheers!   :)

Various Malcolm Arnold discs under the composer (symphonies 1, 4 and 5). And contemplating the purchase of a third integral set of the symphonies.

Edit: the contemplation period was short: it's on its way  ::).

Snagged two things off Amazon MP.  The Borodin was $30 w s/h, which may approach SDCB status, the Reger $60 (half of AmazonUS's list price).

This recording came highly recommended by Sarge, Jeffrey (Vandermolen), and I'm sure some others whom I'm forgetting. Audio samples sounded awesome. Really looking forward to digging into Arnold's "Barnum & Bailey" symphony. :)

This is a 2015 release.  I was surprised to come across it yesterday.  Now it's in the pipeline.

Nice looking order!   :)

The Heinichen looks especially attractive too.

Got a great review in the latest issue of Gramophone IIRC.

The slower speeds make it less circus...hope you aren't disappointed ;D Seriously, it's an awesome performance.

"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

I won't be disappointed. Trust me. I really look forward to it. :)

It will take a couple of weeks before it reaches the St-Lawrence Estuary. I shall bide my time, making the actual arrival something of an event  ;D

I just had to buy Chung's Nielsen individually, especially since the Maskarade Overture, Aladdin Suite, and Imaginary Journey to the Faroe Islands isn't in the BIS set. A shame because I could have easily done without Jarvi's workaday performances of Symphonies 4 & 6.
