  I just bought this:

  [asin]B013FFSG7U[/asin]

I am coming to Stravinsky late in my classical music listening life. Somehow as I made my way from the early Baroque period to Ligeti I kind of "missed" Stravinsky so with this purchase I find myself in........"unchartered territory"........

That's interesting. I didn't know about that one. How does it compare with his EMI recording? Any quicker perchance?

I presume you already have his very fine Brahms 4th with BPO.

:D De Sabata's famous EMI recording is known for its incredible breadth. It's not really slow per se, but it breeeaathes, sometimes heavily. It's one of my favorite performances. I wish I could find a really satisfying digital restoration though. Do you know which is the best sounding ? I had it on lp (EMI) and now on Opera d'oro.

I got this vinyl version cheaply after recommendations in the recent Tchaikovsky Manfred discussion....

Ok, you are pulling my leg. They play Beethoven John. And Mozart and Schubert.

I have the EMI CD release. I think there was only one and not very recent, from mid 90s, but the sound is perfectly fine. Abbey Road Studios remastering.

...and Stravinsky, Debussy, Ravel, Bartok, Sibelius, Elgar, Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, etc. (i. e. composers that I enjoy immensely). :)

Sorry for the delayed reply, Draško.

I don't know the studio recording. I've avoided it because I am not fond at all of the artistry of Elisabeth Schwarzkopf (form the many recordings of hers I know), and therefore feel no attraction to the EMI set. Of course, I miss out on Oralia Domínguez, who I do like quiet a lot. But I really don't like the Verdi Requiem enough to seek out two versions by Victor de Sabata... ;)

The Decca is a live perofmance (to mark the 50th anniversary of Verdi's death), and is in poor but tolerable sound (apperently vastly imprpved compared to former releases on varioous Italian bootleg labels). Tebaldi is in radiant voice, and all the solosits are at least adequate: Prandelli is a stylish singer (even if I suppose Guiseppe di Stefano in 1954 would have had a more beuatiful tone), Nell Rankin a superb artist IMHO, and even Nicola  Rossi-Lemeni sounds fresher and more authorative than in other recordings of his I know.

An assortment of goodies.  Some will arrive in time for the long weekend, and I opted for some more Italian releases.

The Dudamel Mahler is streamable on Amazon, and I started in that way, but after less than a minute I determined I needed to hear it in proper sound.

Todd, please relay your impressions on the Bunyatishvili album. I found it mightily impressive, but wondered about the slapdash level of her playing.

Thanks, I shall seek out the EMI release.

Coincidentally, the Japan Philips incarnation of the Markevitch version came in today. This is one of my absolute favourites - say, a top 5. I'll report in due time.

Will do.  It should arrive tomorrow or Saturday.  Your quick summation more or less matches my impression of her Liszt disc, but I will approach this recording with hopes that she bests Janis and Pollini in the two main works.

I simply love the Antheil Symphonies. Have to listen to them again!
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

I went to get the big Evgeny Kissin box, but it was gone >:(

Got this instead. Listening to a random disc, I'm having serious buyer's remorse...showtunes done operatically ???

I look forward to hearing them! Started with the Bruch, highly praised by Brian and others. jpc had 20% off a selection of their 7.99 Euro discs, came to 5 Euro pr disc with a VAT deduction for us outside the EU.
