I'm pretty sure I'll purchase it. I like much of Ginastera's music, except for his more astringent, repellent efforts. He could be quite the biting mosquito.

Actually André this is from his astringent period so you may not care for it.  It is a 12-tone work.

All Ginastera sounds equally good to me....equally 'biting' but never a mosquito! 8)

I'm familiar with around 7 Ginastera works only, but I sure did enjoy listening to them!
Come on, he started of really strong with Panambi!!!!  ;)
A very strong start indeed, and he kept it up throughout his entire career.

You're right. I will exercise caution. I do love his concerto for strings though, and that's a tough nut to crack.

I was at a regional library. They had an astounding selection of classical CDs, lots of Hyperion, for 50 cents a disc, with huge amounts of stuff I've never heard, lots of lesser known Romantics in particular. I bought 52 discs, and most of it music I have heard before. And, bonus bonus, 6 discs of Spohr.

I could have bought 50 more without breaking a sweat.

damn, just see this has gone down to 62 EUR on amazon.it ... that means it will *just* slip through customs ... thus I pulled the trigger:

I actually have that CD  :)
Good deal ! The performances are fabulous. I suppose when you play under the batons of such maestros as George Szell, Lorin Maazel, Pierre Boulez and Christoph von Dohnanyi precision and virtuosity are pretty much pre-requisites.

I had a hankering for some Flemish polyphony - ordered directly from outhere
[asin]B005IIA9GY[/asin]
Secular and sacred music from e.g. Dufay, Binchois, de Lantins, Brassart, Ockeghem, Desprez, de La Rue (the Missa Alleluia a 5, performed by Capilla Flamenca, is the only duplication for me, I think) and Obrecht

Featured ensembles: Capilla Flamenca, Cappella Pratensis, Continens Paradisi, Diabolus in Musica, Ensemble Discantus, Ensemble Musica Nova, Ensemble Organum, Oltremontano, Piffaro, Psallentes, Romanesque, Vox Luminis

I do not have too much of Sallinen's music so I have decided to explore a little further....

Yet another  Mahler Ninth led by a composer-conductor to add to my collection (to put along Maderna, Boulez, Bernstein...). Found dirt-cheap at an AmDE MP seller:

Well, and the Wunderhorn cycle with FiDi and Brigitte Fassbaender is rather enticing as well  :)

Zender also dabbled in modern music (he was a composer), as well as the old viennese school. His integral set of the Schubert symphonies is peerless.

Fixed  ;)

I don't really need another set of complete Schubert symphionies, but I see they've issued a budget-priced 2-CD album with the "famous" ones (6, 7, 8 & 9--standard, traditional numbering) which I might look into... Thanks for the tip, in any case.
