What do you think of Jennifer Bate in Messiaen organ music?

Glad to see I'm not the only one going through several of these boxes simultaneously.  I think I will wait to begin this one until I get through the first Mercury set, though.  You make a really good point about the value of going randomly, since these MLP boxes have more homogeneous "groupings" by conductor or performer than the other sets.  I may consider that--do you just close your eyes and fish out a CD?

I use a similar system to Scarpia. I first turn all the sleeves open-side-up, then after listening to one I insert it normally. So it would be easy to pick an unlistened one without actually knowing what it is.

But being a computer guy I actually wrote a little script to choose.

My one experience with Messiaen Organ music was not good.

I would put it in the bottom 5 all time classical CDs of all time.  But then I realized that I simply do not like late Messiaen.  I intend to concentrate on early works when I find time to listen to the box set.

Love Ries and that is a good box too.  The piano concertos on Naxos are excellent as well.
