What do you think of Jennifer Bate in Messiaen organ music?

Have not yet heard her, alas (and should). If you've heard her, what do you think?

Glad to see I'm not the only one going through several of these boxes simultaneously.  I think I will wait to begin this one until I get through the first Mercury set, though.  You make a really good point about the value of going randomly, since these MLP boxes have more homogeneous "groupings" by conductor or performer than the other sets.  I may consider that--do you just close your eyes and fish out a CD?

I use a similar system to Scarpia. I first turn all the sleeves open-side-up, then after listening to one I insert it normally. So it would be easy to pick an unlistened one without actually knowing what it is.

But being a computer guy I actually wrote a little script to choose.

Own it but have not listened yet.

My one experience with Messiaen Organ music was not good.

I would put it in the bottom 5 all time classical CDs of all time.  But then I realized that I simply do not like late Messiaen.  I intend to concentrate on early works when I find time to listen to the box set.

Love Ries and that is a good box too.  The piano concertos on Naxos are excellent as well.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

QuoteStill looking forward to proper sessions with the Josquin and Bach motets disques that we both got.

So am I. :)

Thread duty:

Found these two at a used book store:

EDIT:

Landed today, which makes me very, very happy because two or three orders from Zoverstocks have been lost in the mail recently.  I would have received a refund if it didn't arrive, of course, but I doubt that I'd see another copy for $16 shipped any time soon.

Just bought:

I bought this 4-CD set for $20 plus shipping. Not bad at all. This fills yet another gap in my Martinu collection.

No doubt. It's an extraordinarily fine recording of the Motets.  :)

Good to hear.  I must admit that this was Giordano Bruno nailing my wallet again. ;)

I though you hated the Verdi Quartet?  Too much vibrato, and all that.

It was cheap ($4) so I figured I'd give it a try and see if my opinion has changed.
