...and I've just ordered the last one (as "il ne rest[e]ait qu'un exemplaire") through my phone, while boarding a  plane at Brussels airport heading for home. Thanks Karlo for alerting us about that SDCB!

Will report about my purchases at La Boite à Musique once I've landed (they've just closed the doors of the plane).  :)

Just ordered after having seen a used copy for a non-absurd price. Well, it's still a bit steep for used, but when all other copies are over $100...

We will see if it pans out.

I can definitely say that it will pan out....

Ooh. The Domus is worth pounding a table for. Absolutely adore the quintets disc in particular.

Thanks - I hope (and expect) so, after they were recommended in the recent Fauré chamber music discussion! Went to the Hyperion website to order right away, and thought I'd add that Medtner box, of which I heard but hearsay (from the guy distributing Hyperion here - but as he has closed shop for summer vacation right now, my business went straight to the label ... which frankly ended up cheaper I think, if not for the Domus discs, definitely for the Medtner box).

He did no lie to you: Hamelin does really understand Medtner music.

And he is not a robot?  ;)

I already have his Busoni tripel set, which is quite amazing (but not really 100% proof he is not a superhuman of some kind).

Hope you will be as pleased as I was with the Faure. I also have the Medner discs from Hyperion and enjoyed them.

If you like the Domus Faure recordings, I have one other suggestion you might consider, the recording of Brahms Trios from the Florestan Trio, also on Hyperion.

[asin]B00MX51HMK[/asin]

It is one of my favorite audio recordings, period. The Florestan Trio was formed after Domus disbanded, and has overlapping personal with Domus. (In particular, it includes Susan Tomes.)

Thank you kindly. Not really looking for more recordings of Brahms chamber music, but I'll take a mental note (and considering the most recent recordings of the trios I have are the Rubinstein/Szeryng/Fournier ones, why not, after all).

Just something to consider if it happens that the Domus recordings make a very strong impression.

Ah, sorry. I thought you were doubtful of the music, whereas you were in truth doubtful of the vendor.

French Amazon, SDCB alert for the Diotima set.

I cannot (yet) comment on the Diotima 2nd Viennese School set, as it's on its way to Madrid. But as king ubu points out, the Enescu piano music set by Stribat is very nice indeed. The 3rd Piano Sonata is a personal favourite of mine (even if the 3rd movement goes a bit haywire--something not unusual with Enescu). Also, the early Prelude & Fugue is delightful.

THREAD DUTY:

Bought on my (obligatory) stop at La Boite à Musique in Brussels:

[asin]B01HJ3E3BC[/asin]
Paradise Reloaded [Lilith] is a recent (German language) opera by Péter Eötvös, which apparently was enthusiastically received in the theatres its been given at. It joins the impressive Three Sisters and Love and Other Demons on my shelves--the latter with a dedication to me by the composer  :).

[asin]B06XS7PTL3[/asin]
Completing the survey of Ernst Krenek's piano concertos (the first volume came out last year). I first got to know this part of Krenek's output via Dimitri Mitopoulos's live recording of the Third Concerto (the Greek conductor / pianist championed Krenek in the difficult early years of his American exile), but it's great to have the whole series in modern recordings.  I think Krenek is a major and sadly underappreciated composer.

[asin]B004HGQXAY[/asin]
This was heavily discounted. I got to know Fernando Sor's music through Narciso Yepes's recording of the Études on LP many, many years ago and remember enjoying it very much. I've neglected him since, though.

Good to hear, Rafael! I've heard a couple of Enescu's solo piano works and have been meaning to investigate further for some time.

Do pay special attention to the second movement (andantino) of the Third Piano Sonata, Karlo. It's intensely beuatiful.

Pity the Second Sonata was never committed to paper. Enescu claimed to have it all composed "in his head".  ::)

That's a cool story - and I only learnt it from the Stirbat set ... had been wondering for a while. Btw, the new (recent) Lipatti box from Hänssler claims to have his take on Enescu's third sonata in correct speed for the very first time - and it contain's a load of his recordings with the master himself on violin. For those that don't mind historic sound (and are willing to let go the EMI Icon set), that's a most intriguing set anyway!

Received these today (bought them via amazon.de marketplace a while ago but had to have them sent to a friend in Germany, as many vendors don't ship outside of Germany, a fact that's even more absurd as many aren't located in Germany, in one case I even had one from Switzerland that I couldn't order from via amazon marketplace because of this!):

It's a wonderful recording of all of the works.  As I mentioned on another forum, the Diotimas perform even Schoenberg's most absurdly difficult passages with seeming ease, so that a minor ninth played espressivo-dolce will actually sound sweet and expressive!
