I didn't care for Beauty Farm's CD of Ockeghem Masses either.  Though friends tell me the two Gombert discs are a different story.  For fans of the Franco-Flemish polyphony, the Bauldeweyn (or Balduin or Bauldwijn) Masses are an essential purchase, regardless, as some works by Bauldeweyn have been misattributed to Josquin, so he must be a very fine composer.  & I don't recall that his music has ever been recorded before.

Nothing new under the sun  . Sciarrino was beat to this subject matter almost 180 years ago by Friedrich von Flotow:



And then, of course, there's Pfitzner's Palestrina.

There are other operas on Stradella ... I was aware of César Franck's (1841) but not of Louis Niedermeyer's (1837 - never even heard Niedermeyer's name before ...)

Hi Malx,

For some reason the dull hand of Bostock's competence really annoys me!  Now Holmboe is quite a different matter - what an excellent composer.

Forum-wise I'm not really watching/contributing anywhere at the moment - I still find the format here hard to follow a single thread with much ease (I find all the re-quoting of the previous contribution a pain!) - best wishes

A new acquisition, actually a gift from a Swiss friend, well known here in GMG... 



I must admit I've never heard of him or his music...but a quick search told me that he is "a contemporary Swiss composer of classical music, known for applying electronic music techniques to his productions" (Wiki).
Very promising, I'd say.

I actually owned excerpts of this already abridged  performance  (all of Callas's interventions) on LPs on the HRE label (but my LP collection stayed on the other side of the Atlantic 30 years ago). I suppose the sound will have improved in this "first official release" of the recording.

I've heard none of them but Rimsky-Korsakov's one acter Mozart and Salieri has a few recordings and at least one YouTube performance.
