Hey, Karl.

I heard the First PC on YouTube. Loved Postnikova and Rozh's broad tempo in the first movement. Had to buy it.

I hope not...not for his sake but for hers. I'd like to think she didn't have to endure sexual harassment.

Sarge

That would be surprising. She was his companion for a few years, and they opened last year's Verbier festival together (Brahms VC).

Sergeant Rock

Arrived today: period instrument performances of Christmas music by Joseph and Michael Haydn and Franz Gruber (of "Silent Night" fame). Recommended by Gurn.

Those just arrived here, too! Also bought a pair of January 2018 releases today:

[asin]B077ZCTV3B[/asin]
Heard him with Christie in Charpentier's "Médée", sampled the disc before buying - pretty sure it's wonderful!

[asin]B077ZHB51D[/asin]
Sampled this one, too ... contents:
- Concerto BWV 972 (after Vivaldi)
- Fantasia & Fugue BWV 904
- Concerto BWV 974 (after Marcello)
- Capriccio sopra la lontananza del suo fratello dilettissimo BWV 992
- Aria variata alla maniera italiana BWV 989*
- Italian Concerto BWV 971

*) this one was just done in an ensemble arrangement on the lovely new naïve album by il brigante Rinaldo Rinaldini (Alessandro Alessandrini ... some combination of the two I can still not remember, apologies, but he's one of the greatest of course!)

Others bought (2017 released I still missed):

[asin]B074JQ8V9D[/asin]

[asin]B073XCX9ZD[/asin]

My first Zefiro disc, guess I should explore more there ....

A somewhat older disc then (mentioned hearing Pires yesterday playing KV 595 with Haitink at Tonhalle, the guy there - the evil evil place that distributes Outhere, Hyperion, Onyx, MDG, etc. but not, alas, Glossa or naïve - mentioned this and I thought I'll give it a chance):

[asin]B00KCU2PWO[/asin]

Also then he gifted me with this one, since he thinks Hewitt is as good/fresh in Mozart on modern piano as Pires - he asked which was my favorite Mozart concerto and then looked for the disc with it (it's - ain't that obvious? - KV 491, of course  ;D ):

[asin]B00K6D1GI6[/asin]

Also, last week I already bought these (again mostly 2017 releases - it's quite incredible how many CDs some labels put out - as if there was no crisis in selling physical recordings):

[asin]B075GBJD8L[/asin]
[asin]B076BCD83Y[/asin]
[asin]B074JSB11Q[/asin]

The Herreweghe Brahms (asin link not showing pic, thus fixed) is, I think, a dud ... but I will revisit it at least a few more times. It's only Symphony No. 4 that's new, the - excellent - Alto Rhapsody and Schicksalslied were already on an earlier phi disc, which would probably have been the smarter choice to buy ... I have thus decided to not give his new Schubert disc a try, at least not right now.

The Schubert is not a straight remake of his earlier recording: he includes, as recitation, five poems from the original Müller cycle which Schubert did not set to music.

Thanks! The Croce and Marcello discs already got a spin each and both are nice.

Oberti is a new name to me, but the programme looks nice and what little I got to hear in the shoppe was convincing enough to take it home with me ... Zefiro being new to me I already mentioned, and Gatti ... well, whatever Italian stuff he touches, I love it!

Bruckner's Sacred Music is always interesting and Jucuhm is interesting here. I look forward to reading some thoughts and reactions to that set  :)

Yeah, I've got Best's set on Hyperion, but I always felt his performances were a bit too...what's the word...reserved. I'm not a huge fan of Jochum in Bruckner (or at least his symphonies), but I did a wide sample of various performances from this set and quite enjoyed what I heard. There's an energy here that's absent from the Best performances.

OK; I will be interested in what you think of the set when you eventually get to listen to it.

I don't know what to compare this to...what other pianist? I love this purchase.

The LP set of this was my first foray into serious classical music aquisitions. In 74 or 75. I dtill have it around.
