Really getting into the modernists now, I see, John? Nothing wrong with that. :) I find Gubaidulina's and Carter's (especially the latter) music to be quite challenging. Lutoslawski and Varese are at the outer fringes of my comfort zone, but I enjoy their music quite a bit. Like your new Pettersson quote by the way!

Absolutely, Kyle. I'm still warming to Carter and Gubaidulina, but both of these composers fascinate me (Gubaidulina more so than Carter). I'm glad you like my Pettersson quote so please don't copy this one! ;) :D

I listened to some of Pro et contra and really enjoyed what I was hearing. The second movement is particularly beautiful. There is another recording of this work on CPO, but I prefer the more brooding qualities of Otaka's performance.
