Traverso

Hans Werner Henze

16 CD
Long overdue

Judith

Just ordered Scriabin and Janacek Poems performed by Stephen Hough

Has

Scriabin
Piano Sonatas 5 & 4
Poeme in F Sharp Major
Vers La Flamme poeme

Janacek
On the Overgrown Path
Piano Sonata From the Street

Ashamed to say that I'm not familiar with either of these composers, and the only Scriabin I have is performed by Lang Lang, so think it needs rectifying. Looking forward to indulging.

An excellent survey if this interesting (if uneven) composer's output, beautifully produced by DG. I hope you enjoy it, Traverso.

THREAD DUTY:

I was favourably impressed by Paul Le Flem's (new to me) piano mudic, and these were available cheaply on Amazon (or via MP sellers) here in Spain:

[asin]B00004UYO6[/asin] [asin]B000VS8UM6[/asin] [asin]B005FMQBBU[/asin]

The last one is quite intriguing: a short (ca. 40') operatic adaptation—initially thought to be performed as a shadow play—of The 23th century chantefable Aucassin et Nicolette, scored for 5 vocal soloists, chorus, strings, harp, piano and organ.

I'm sure  that  it  is  an  attractive  box. There  are new, unknown  pieces in this box but that is only  a surprise.  It is more accessible as  Xenakis.
It is a real bargain, only  48 euro's.
I have  to  go not  to fast and relisten a lot of  recordings with modern classical music that  I purchased lately  . This box  was an  easy  choice.

A few gems I found at a used record/CD store. The Shostakovich is vinyl, and features one of the best DSCH album covers of all time. Captions are welcomed  ;D

"Bathe yourself in the healing power of my musical elixir..."
Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

I'm tempted, but at least half of the contents is made of vocal works in languages other than English (or French), and no texts are provided. This is an egregious failing from DGG. How can one appreciate this music in these conditions ? :-[

There seems to be a big sale on some Czech Phil / Zdenek Macal Mahlers on the Exton label. I just purchased these two for less than 3 bucks:

.

Also, this Mozart Serenade by Harnoncourt:

Great to hear, Andre. I have read some great things about Kondrashin's DSCH.

"And let there be fog gently rising from the waters.." said the creator as he squinting'ly surveyed his work.

It was a good decision to close your eyes, I am still in the process of coming to terms with the cover, which will probably never happen, so maybe I should stream it from a provider and ignore the cover.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

It is indeed very unfortunate that no texts-libretos are present in this edition.
It did not stop me from buying this box, maybe there is something to find on the internet.
Unfortunately, it is common practice not to deliver any more texts in these major editions.

Is there a download available of the texts? There are at least some Deutsche Grammophon products where this is the case.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Maybe there is some information in the box about that.
