I think I'll move on to dabbling elsewhere but am interested to hear how Penderecki does a requiem, having some by Ligeti, Reimann, Pierre Henry (one a rock version) and another very strange rock version by Os Mundi (sung in Latin) 0:).

That is exactly what would interest me also.

Traverso

There is one conducted by the maestro himself

Maybe also interested in this one?

  (2LP's)

Thank you for those recommendations [and both vinyl].

The requiem is a CD

The LP's are not too difficult to find.

OK, I misinterpreted the (2 LP's) thinking that both were vinyl [given the Argo label] instead of a 2 LP set  :)

Based on the little music by de Visée that I own I think that you should enjoy it. Please do post any thoughts as I would be interested.

Arrived today: The Rotterdam Philharmonic Collection, live recordings conducted by Nézet-Séguin.

A mandatory pre-order, a couple new titles, and a flood of Amazon Add-ons.  This haul will allow me to compare and contrast the conducting styles of the brothers Honeck.

I believe this also marks the first purchase for me from the Polish division of Sony (the Scarlatti disc).

I thought you had this already.

I have it as part of Brilliant's set of Schumann's complete piano works. It may well be the best part of that set. There are two items in my version not listed on the cover: Op 7 Toccata and the original finale of the second Sonata.
I predict you will want the rest of his output if you don't already have it.

.

The sound on the Lonquich is fabulous, and the performances are food for thought as is the outstanding booklet essay by the pianist. It's interesting for me to think about how well his performances match up to the written analysis.
The sound on the Gourari too is very good and my first impressions suggest that there are also things to think about in the performances, there are passages which seem to hover, a stillness, which I find interesting.
The Bacchetti Scarlatti is also interesting, slowed down, refined and rather introspective. It's quite an original way to take this music.
I'm quite curious about te Bolet, let me know what you make of it.

No, the only Schmitt-Leonardy I have is:

For four bucks and change, I thought his Schumann an easy 'buy' decision.  I'll probably get his Brahms soon enough.

Not sure why I waited so long to get this Vaughan Williams box:

But now I'm wondering if I should have waited a bit more for the BIG Previn box

I made the same choice and am good with it. His RVW is superb, but I don't think of him as a visionary conductor whose every utterance is noteworthy.

I do like this. I'm comparing it to Satoh and I think it's a good contrast. Satoh is more serious and his recording soundscape drier. Xavier Díaz-Latorre, I think, is more "sweet" and atmospheric the way baroque can be. I have to listen more but the Therbo playing of Díaz-Latorre could be where he really mines beauty. I'll post something more in the lute thread perhaps. I love early guitar music!
