I'm taking the opportunity to upgrade some of my downloads from archive.org to CDs while available at a decent price.

Super excited to find the Lyrita British Symphonies 4-disc set in a charity shop today. All but 3 of the works on the set are new to me, and most of those are composers I've not heard before.

Oh nice! It's years since I've even looked at CDs in a charity shop - do you think there'd be much 20th Century "Modern" that people bought inadvertently and hated?

You didn't grab that Naxos Couperin for $1.99? Nothing else in that sale was on my shopping list but I don't know if I can resist that deal...

All good pieces in typically excellent Lyrita recordings - enjoy!

This particular shop specializes in CDs and books, so I've frequently found some amazing treasures there.

Funny you should ask that; a couple of weeks ago in my local Oxfam I got the Kent Nagano 2-CD set of Varèse (very nearly a Complete Works), the Ultima 2-CD of Boulez (Pli selon pli; Le visage nuptial; Le soleil des eaux; Figures, doubles, prismes), plus another single Boulez (Anthèmes 2, Messagesquisse, Sur Incises).  All quite old, so perhaps the owner had been listening to them for years before going "Aaargh!".  Oxfam's specialised Books and Music shops are especially good, but tend to be more expensive.

Feeding my RVW ...well, not "addiction", exactly. "Inferiority complex", perhaps.  ;D

Slatkin was my first voyage through the RVW symphonies in the early 90s, and I think they still hold up quite well. The sound volume is a little low, but the playing is phenomenal. I like to single out the vocal soloists for Sea Symphony, and the Philharmonia's low-brass in the 4th Symphony.

I got it at the normal price when it came out, or not long after.
That's my problem with these Arkiv sales. It's stuff I already have, or was never really interested in, or the sale price is not such a big deal. The only truly appealling things were the Brilliant Beethoven and Haydn boxes.  The former is available on Amazon MP for less. Arkiv's price is noticeably less than Amazon but not enough to tempt me, especially  since I have some of those recordings already (the symphonies, the piano trios, the Klavierstucke, and some other scattered stuff).

Their sale prices often are not competitive. I want the Alain Bach Warner box they had on sale for $45, but Presto has it on sale for $33, and shipping is similar.

The prices they give on new releases are usually within reason.
I use their VIP program. At the rate I order, it pays for itself within two weeks.

Speaking of which I never posted this order from last weekend.

Except the last which is apparently on back order.

Am I imagining it, but didn't you post some time ago that you were taking a different job that would pay less than your previous job, which wouldn't  allow you to buy so many CDs. Something doesn't add up here.  :D

Those would appeal to me. I might just go and have a look at what people have died listening to ;).
