The new erato

It will take some time before they arrive and autumn sets in for proper listening time, but yes, I will mention them in due time. Caught up in some EU Security audits for the time being, they require a lot of attention.....

I can confirm that this is fine set, wonderfully recorded and performed. It should turn up soon in my backlog to play it again.

Great! - thanks Harry :)

Oy.  I work with document/drawing management systems for a large medical device company, with many branches in the EU -- I know all about German auditors (to say nothing about the FDA)... :'(
The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

The new erato

Yes, why oh why couldn't they send us some Italians?

I have those discs and can live with the sound, though of course it is time that western companies took up the case for Tischenko as they have done for Weinberg,.

To clarify, I was talking about the sound quality of the Fourth Symphony, rather than the two discs I mentioned.

Ravel: Daphnis et Chloé [Dutoit]

It has been so long since I have been able to log on to this site that I have forgotten who recommended this CD to me.
I am more than willing to take the credit!

Cross post from the Listening thread....

Ravel: Daphnis et Chloe [Dutoit]

Spectacular is not an adjective that I often use but it certainly applies to this presentation. This version is texturally very rich and tonally very atmospheric. Tension and drama are also rife throughout.

So, well done sir on the recommendation and take a bow  8)

This disc includes Kjell Mørk Karlsen's 3rd symphony, which I had as a download. It's a rather short, intense work I very much like. I don't know what the rest of the disc will be like, though, as I've never heard of the other 2 composers.

Not sure about later incarnations, but in the original disc, everything is on one track, which pretty much means I had to listen to it all the way through, which was not difficult to do!

Browsing through a CD Store, bought a lovely Mahlers Symphony no 5  by Daniel Harding and Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. A real gem🎼🎼
