Oh that's a good one. I'll have to pull it out of the CD rack now...

Hey!  You order that Susan Graham/Hahn CD!  Looking forward to hearing what you think of it...and also of that Janacek/Kodaly album [as noted in that piano thread, I'm looking for some good contemporary pianists re Janacek.   :)  Curious as to what Kodaly pieces she is playing too?

I haven't heard the Hahn songs yet. But I have been listening to the Klára Würtz Janácek/Kodály a lot these past few days. She's a very talented Hungarian pianist. I became a fan of hers on account of her collaborations with Kristóf Baráti on Brilliant. I'm not familiar with other recordings of the Janácek so I don't know if her performance is competitive, but it is good, articulate playing in clear, resonant sound. As for the Kodály, she plays what I believe is the bulk of his complete piano works: 3 of the op.11 pieces, plus the Méditation sur un motif de Debussy, and the Marosszék Dances. All are great, very impressionistic music, and it reminds me of what an impact Debussy had on Hungarian composers of the time, with Kodály's friend and contemporary Bartók having named Debussy as a chief influence. Anyway it was a surprise to me how good these works are. I'd recommend the disc. I got it for $2.50 brand new on Amazon prime.  :D

MacDowell: Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2; Hexentanz; Romance for cello and orchestra
Prutsman (piano), Byrne (cello)
NSO Ireland/Fagen

Decided to pick this up, going in blind with this composer. One of the earlier American composers before the "boom" of the 20th century. Listening to Concerto No. 1 now, and it's very enjoyable. Reminds me somewhat of Grieg's concerto in the same key of A minor.

Been eyeing this one for some time, but since there's only one set available, I bit the bullet.

3 disc set. Solo violin or cello works, plus some for violin and cello. Yummy.

After years of passing acquaintance, I've begun seriously exploring Schumann's piano music just over the past week or so...

I've just picked up a couple of budget items to help things along.  The biography below looks very good, and the ebook is currently 5 bucks...

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

Nice, I have the Perahia Schumann box too. It's quite popular, widely acclaimed and the performances are good, but none of them have become favorites of mine in their respective works. But it covers a lot of ground and should be a good introduction. It even comes with some of the song cycles with Peter Pears.

Two early discs of Schumann I listened to fro the big Sony box ("the First 40 Years") are very fine, particularly Symphonic Etudes and Fantasiestucke.

Judging by the title, you relish in Christianity's morbid obsession with physical pain and death.  >:D  :P

Stocked up on some Milhaud:

The string quartets contain some truly delightful music. I was very happy to have heard them the last year.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!
