Over at eClassical, and until the end of May 31, several hundred Naxos titles are available in highres (24-bit) FLAC for 50% off - making them cheaper than MP3s. And, thanks to eClassical's by-the-minute pricing, they're also cheaper than physical CDs.

The item on your list that temps me is the Weinberg Chamber Concerti.

That recording does look good, but I have to say Kremer and co. have me rather spoilt. Have you heard his recording of these works?

Chamber Concerto 4 is also on another Naxos disc in the sale, the one with the clarinet concerto. So you can grab 1/2/4 together for under $10.

From what I remember of the Leshnoff, you bought the least impressive of the three works on that CD. >:D

I have about half a dozen of those CDs. The Shostakovich CDs and the Sierra were the ones I liked best.
I streamed Leshnoff's "Starburst" and thought it about 4 minutes too long. I like him a lot. Got to interview him a couple years ago and he was so charming and friendly we chatted for like an hour and he invited me to meet him at the concert. Great guy and good to talk to. Think I posted about it with quotes in a composer thread.

I have at least one Kremer/Wienberg disc, but not the Chamber Concerti. Symphony No 10, I think. I have all of the Chamber Concerti in discs from Olympia and Claves.

Sounds attractive, but I am not in a CD buying state of mind recently.

I had a digital version of this, but the Evil Brian convinced me I needed the real-deal.  Thanks Brian >:D

Just delivered, and it is a fine set.  BTW, got it from Amazon.JP for not much over $100, plus shipping.  Seems OOP elsewhere.

Thanks for the heads-up, Brian. I too just took part in a Europa sale...

I haven't heard this one, but their "Last Seven Words" (same orchestra and conductor) is one of the best versions that I've heard ever. Actually, the very best on modern instruments.  :)

Very nice, indeed. I think Kremer does an outstanding job in these works. I have yet to receive the newer Kremer Weinberg recording on DG. Hopefully, I'll receive it soon enough.

aye, that it will 8) Happily busy, I'm 100% sure. Still working on the Seon box at present, which has the exact same number of disks, coincidentally...

Then I would truly suggest checking out their Mozart/Symphonies record. I've sampled their Last Seven Words and there is a similar interpretive, and playing quality to that of this Mozart.

A little ArkivMusic order:

My Quatour Ebene Beethoven set arrived today.

I decided to make a bigger order on JPC. The Englund disc is somewhat nicely priced. I streamed Atterberg's Cello Concerto on Spotify I really liked it! More than the Symphonies! Maybe Atterberg's style really works for concertos? The fifth Symphony was written at the same time period and I found it the best of the cycle. I don't know, but I loved the Cello Concerto, all of it's movements (the first 2/3 of the 3th movement was Heitor Villa-Lobos-like imo for example). Such a mesmerizing and velvety work. So I added the disc into this order to spread the shipping costs over 5 CDs. Boccherini is always nice and I also took advantage of some other 2,99 € offers. Total with shipping was 30,94 €, about 6,19 € per CD.  0:)

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Purchased these last night, but post was lost during site crash:

Kyle (Kyjo) is to blame for this one, especially for using the phrase 'doom-laden processional' in relation to it.
:)

Also I pre-ordered the Barbirolli album (for Vaughan Williams's 6th Symphony). I posted about it before but I think that my post vaporised in the Great GMG Forum Meltdown:

"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

-The Gergiev/Mahler 4th I primarily got for the final movement with soprano, Laura Claycomb, it's one of the best finale's I've heard.
-Caught the finale of Solti/CSO's first recording of the 5th on the radio and it's pure dynamite as one would suspect from this duo.
-A Hurwitz YouTube rec of his favorite fantastique, and he is right, it's amazing. This is Munch/BSO second recording of the work from 1962, not the one that received the Living Stereo treatment.
-Haydn/Seven Words performed by one of my new favorite groups, Ensemble Resonanz.
-And a new Crumb disc, mainly for the song cycle Unto The Hills with Ann Crumb. This will also be my 4th Black Angels I own, and this one by the Miro Quartet it is a good one, but having the recording "supervised by the composer" as stated is an extra incentive to own it.
