I misread and I thought it was 'The Lady with the Laptop'.

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Soundtrack:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

This has been a disc I've been meaning to get around to for years, but glad I finally pulled the trigger on it. Too bad BIS seems to have stopped their traversal of Brazilian music altogether.

I'll be interested to hear what the music is like John.

Well, from what I've heard of it so far --- I only listened to Sinfonia tropical, it's a marriage of Villa-Lobos and Respighi. Right up, both of our alleys for sure. 8) But I haven't received it yet, but will definitely post some thoughts on the rest of the music if I can remember to do so.

A fine choice, Jeffrey. That is a great performance of the 4th and a fine Requiem. If you've never heard the Requiem before, you're in for a special treat.

That's great to know John - thank you. It was only c.£5.00 + P&P and I don't know the Requiem.

Awesome! Please do not buy any more Schnittke right now. You'll understand my reason for saying this on Monday. ;)

Ordered today with JPC de.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Pounds the table! One of the great American symphonic cycles, IMHO.

Thanks, I read good things about the music - what do you think are the choice works in this Box-Set?

I love all of the symphonies, but the 3rd has received the most press. It's probably the most immediately accessible of them, but I'd say the 4th has some similar characteristics as well.

Good stuff - I'll start with those ones when I receive the set (shouldn't be too long as I was able to buy it from an Australian seller)... :)

I bought this for a price I couldn't refuse. I thought I had this in my collection but I own Dorati's earlier recording of several of these works on Mercury Living Presence. The deciding factor for me was sampling some of this recording from YouTube --- yeah, I was impressed, obviously. ;)

I got my copy a couple days ago and listened to this earlier in the evening.  Beautiful playing by the Detroit Symphony and gorgeous Decca recording.
