Wise words from Que:

Never waste a good reason for a purchase....  ;)

Geo Dude

I haven't been buying much music lately, but when I saw this on the MP for under $12 (+ shipping), I knew I needed to grab it before someone else did:

I like that collection a lot.  I got it for the three discs of Handel, which fwiw were all named (in their original single disc releases) as "Desert Island" favorites by the editors of GFHandel.org, at once point.  The Tafelmusik/Lamon light touch is a pleasure.

My CDCDCD medication has definitely worn off now:

I just can't help myself here. I need another Elgar 2nd like a need a hole in my head, but this is one of my favorite works of all-time and what I heard of this performance from NML, I'd say Oramo has the music completely under his control. The couplings are lovely works as well.

Willow Pattern

But then dear Paul, you already bought a considerable amount of CD'S this year, far more as I did this year, the big task and question is how to listen to them all. Probably one at the time ;D
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Sarge

Nice pick, Sarge! Rozhdestvensky nails both of these works. Kagan's and Gutman's playing in Concerto Grosso No. 2 is something else. This was also a great performance of Faust Cantata. Next to DePreist's, my favorite for sure.

kishnevi

Playing his newest CD (Chopin Polonaises*) reminded me that I hadn't ever gotten around to getting this one.
So I did.

* first impression was positive, but how positive I should be will require further listens and actual comparisons.

TheGSMoeller

Because I want all recordings of No.45 and 80 available. Also of No. 98, 39, 6, 53...you catch my drift. Plus I'm such a sucker for Haydn that I'd probably buy pink, flannel pajamas with his portrait on the butt of the pants if it was mentioned here on GMG a few times.  ;D
