A small Triangle streamer:

I need to start experimenting with streaming, and streaming on my phone or PCs crappy sound have never been of any interest.

We'll see. I wonder if I should start a limited test of Apple Music, which my borther swears by for classical music.

I for one would be interested in your findings with the Triangle!
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

In due time I will make some notes. Just arrived by mail.

If all that you want is classical, try one of the dedicated services - Primephonic or Idagio.  Apple is rather better than most at properly tagging classical music with metadata, admittedly.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

I'm afrsid I do want a good selection of both classical pop as well as moden pop/rock.

Just bought:

A while back, I posted about the large impact a live performance of Souvenir de Florence had on me. The ensemble was ASMF (or members thereof)! Early '90s, Queens, NYC iirc.

Very nice, T. D. 8) It's a lovely work and I don't believe I've heard the arrangement for string orchestra.

I love Gardiner's Bach cantatas series and have a bunch of them.  Hope that you enjoy them Olivier!

Just pre-ordered:

I'm a huge fan of Karajan's Sibelius on DG (his later EMI remakes weren't as inspired for me and I found them too smoothed over), but I didn't own all of his performances on DG as I only own the 2-CD set (The Originals remastered), which I bought years ago. Looking forward to having it all under one roof and it's been remastered again. The blu-ray audio disc will be a nice bonus.

^I just got that Brian Violin Concerto disc in its original incarnation (Marco Polo) over the weekend; I found it at a bookstore. I liked it, though I don't know much about Havergal Brian, by any means.

Go over to the Brian thread and you'll read post after post from all our resident nutcases. :P I own a good bit of Brian's music, but I never found him a truly compelling composer. A lot of his music just kind of went in one ear and out the other. I do remember his Symphony No. 1, "Gothic" pretty vividly as it was the one work that I engaged with. I should revisit more of his music to see if my opinion has changed at all.

That Brian thread is enormous. It was one of the first things I noticed when I joined GMG—a thread on Havergal Brian with something like 300 pages—that made me think this place is really something else

Easley Blackwood: Symphony No.1 (1954/55)
Saw this was included in the Charles Munch Edition 80+ CD box set and was curious - thought it was terrific and, hey presto, I found a single CD release featuring the work:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).
