Didn't watch/hear it, John, although it's not the first time I stumble upon it and wonder if it wouldn't be nice to have  ::).

Truth is that I might enjoy it just that once and lay it rest untouched forever after  :-X

Ah, but it has 12 hours or so of performances that may be of interest.

With good reason ! I have had them for a few years but in a space-saving box on the NCA label.

Great stuff. Surprisingly, the composer Reger's piano music reminds me most of is CPE Bach, who was equally prolific, dabbled in all genres and produced gold nuggets like a hen lays eggs.

+1. Becker's performance is aesthetic.

André

@ Todd: the Meyer SQs are excellent.

Great to read, Dry Brett. 8)

Todd - not too late to go back and add this Qigang Chen orchestral works album, if you don't already have it:

I'm not saying for sure, but there is a reasonably good chance that I revisit the sale around the holiday.  My purchase yesterday was the pared down batch.  Chen will be added to the wishlist.

Just bought:

Very good John, hope you enjoy !

I also have this dvd of a performance under James Conlon:

In both recordings the important coloratura part of the Nightingale (Hellen Kwon / Désirée Rancatore) is superbly taken.

Thanks, Andre! The reviews I've read about this opera have been quite favorable, indeed.

Got this recording for the Jolivet, but the Chausson is a nice piece. Faust should be great (per usual).

It's a superb work, it bowled me over when I heard it.

A recording that was still missing:

A really fine recording, you will enjoy it it !   :)

JBS

Enjoying the Marriner/ASMF Haydn set, I decided to go for this

Deciding factor was inclusion of the non-standard symphonies.

Hollywood Beach Broadwalk

Spotted Horses

I'm almost surprised to find myself springing for this. I already have the Debussy, which I would consider the most valuable recordings in the set. But there are many other lovely things there, and the recording of the Mozart Concerti gnaws at me, since reviews I've read indicate it just the sort of thing I like and it seems to be utterly impossible to find as an individual release.

Vols 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 32. I'm contempling adding a few more, but I'll wait to go through those 6 first.

This is a good one, Andre. We get to hear some smaller-scale Leifs. I don't own this particular recording but I own the original release, which was issued on the Smekkleysa label. The BIS recording is a reissue.

Florestan

Looks like my cultural Russophobia is over (the political one, though, is stronger and more intransigent than ever).  :D

Anyone any idea why the Stewart-Medtner series stopped at the 2nd volume only?
