Quote from: Florestan on January 27, 2023, 12:06:49 PMAh, okay, I wasn't very attentive.

Go figure: I find both the Streicher and the Troendlin fortepiano eminently listenable, and I'm not exactly famous for being a HIPster. They must be something else indeed.  :D

I have to admit that I was surprised that you ventured onto the dark side... ;D
But seriously: Vermeulen has a real knack for Schubert that stands comparison with the best. And the instruments fit the music well.

Some used copies on the way:

And from Presto :

The Isoir is backordered, showing as non-available on La Dolce Volta - I'll be dead chuffed if Presto managed to actually deliver a copy.

I caught the last movement (Bloch) on BBC Record Review yesterday and thought 'what's this great piece?' Turns out it's from this new release. The CD gets a rave review in the February Gramophone Magazine. Elgar's 'Viola Concerto' is his Cello Concerto adapted for the Viola:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

Bebbington + Poulenc = good stuff. The Hahn box looks fun too.

Quote from: Spotted Horses on January 23, 2023, 10:03:22 AMFrom what I know of the industry, 1000 copies is a lot.

You're right that 1000 is generally a lot of copies for one release in the classical music world. But I was wondering if maybe more copies were printed for some these box sets which have become common in recent years. Just speculation, I have no idea if this is actually true. I was under the impression that the Prazak Quartet box was selling exceptionally well, which is why I bought it now!

The tracking information shows me that the package was on a flight from Frankfurt to San Francisco yesterday. So hopefully in a few days I'll be enjoying a feast of chamber music!  ;D
So much great music, so little time...

I don't think I've ever heard the Puccini. Frankly I don't even remember hearing about it.

I'd be interested in thoughts on the Brahms piano sets. Plowright was kind of on my radar.
