There is so much drop dead gorgeous Renaissance art.... it's a real shame they didn't use any. Curious about your choices! Is it all Franco-Flemish?  :D

More or less, yes  ;D

One can never have too much Haydn.

A few years ago, in a now defunct but back then very interesting thread, GMG member @pjme draw my attention to the Belgian cello virtuoso Adrien François Servais. Hat tip, Peter!

Self-recommending.

PLus, the whole Beethoven - Rossini discussion led me to these two.

This appears to be a correct statement. However, I'm still usually working on having one recording of each work that I want.

When I get around to implementing my plan for filling out (nearly) all the remaining string quartets, I'll have a chance to reassess. Maybe I can do without operas and baryton trios, but this is not guaranteed.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Aw, screw it, I'm gonna do some good old-fashioned comparative listening of late Brahms and I'm gonna rely mostly on recordings I own.  I recently acquired Hough, and the Gieseking box includes Opp 116-119, so these add a few more to work through.  The Lewis is a 24/96 download since that was the same price as MP3 and 16/44.1.

I am not that much of a Respighi fan, but was looking for a recording of the Belfagor Overture (which was separated from the opera — a work I really like). I ended buying this 8 CD set, which does not include the specific work I was looking for  ::) , but will let me explore the composer's oeuvre further (and was very affordable):

When you do go back to looking for the Belfagor, I remember the Neschling recording to be good.

I could not find this on Qobuz, so I looked for a download on chandos.net, and they are having a Naxos download sale.  I also used some loyalty points, so I got the download for £1.12.

From the Naxos sale on the Chandos website. Thank you @Daverz for the heads-up.

I wanted to get a late Beethoven quartet with the Alban-Berg-Quartett. Then I saw the box of all 16 for EUR 9,99 used like new and could not resist; additionally my first recording of the Prokofiev flute sonata (Pahud, I had several of the violin version. And a fat old book on Handel by Paul Henry Lang.

A nice pile! I've never got into the Rorem symphonies however.

...
I've been on a Casella spree recently, and those La Vecchia / Naxos releases are indispensable for anyone interested in the composer. I hope you enjoy them.

Pity the Rome Symphony Orchestra has been disbanded... :(

I've already listened to la Vecchia's recordings of the first two symphonies and was favorably impressed.
